Allyson Felix VS Jackie Joyner Kersee For GOAT (Greatest of All Time)
By Robert Forster, PT CEO
August 20,2016
With the Rio Olympics winding down Allyson Felix broke an impressive record with her 400m Silver Medal performance last Monday, the 4x100m relay Gold Medal last night, and tonight's 4 x 400m relay Gold.
Allyson Felix GOAT Greatest of All Time
With those three medals added to her 6 previous, she has pulled ahead of her mentor and teammate Jackie Joyner Kersee
(6 Olympic Medals) in the all time track and field medal count.
But does this give her the GOAT designation as the
Greatest Of All Time female track and field athlete?
Jackie Joyner Kersee
Both Allyson and Jackie have competed in four Olympics. Both were coached by Bobby Kersee, who is also a GOAT, earning the greatest Track and Field Coach of All Time title with over 50 Olympic Medals and at least one Gold Medal at each of the last 9 consecutive Olympic Games.
Both have been long time clients of ours, both are gracious champions void of controversy, and they are two of the toughest competitors I have ever worked with.

Allyson has 6 Olympic Gold Medals, and three Silver.
Jackie has 3 Gold, one Silver and two Bronze Olympic Medals. Of Allyson's 9 Olympic medals only 3 are in individual events while all 6 of Jackie's have come in individual events.

In World Championships, Allyson leads the count with 13 total: 9 Gold with most coming in the relay events. Felix became the youngest-ever gold medalist sprinter in the 200 meters at the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005,
and made her Olympic debut in 2004 at the age of 18 claiming a silver medal in the 200m, which she often describes as her favorite event.

Jackie has 4 World Championship medals, all Gold, and all in individual events. She was the first American woman to earn a Gold Medal in long jump as well as the first American woman to earn a Gold Medal in heptathlon.
World Records
Joyner-Kersee still holds the World Record in heptathlon along with the top six all-time best results in that 7 event competition. Her long jump record of 7.49m is second on the long jump all-time list. In addition to heptathlon and long jump, she was a world class athlete in 100 m hurdles and 200 meters. Sports Illustrated voted her the greatest female athlete of the 20th century. Allyson was a member of the 4x100m relay team that set a World Record at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Who is the GOAT?
This exercise has been fun and I will leave it up to the experts and the fans to decide which is the GOAT. For me the privilege of working with these two great champions has been pure pleasure.
In my line of work I see athletes at their lowest moments whether it be from injury or in defeat, and these two ladies have shown more courage, character and integrity in those dark times - and more grace in winning - than any other Olympian I have had the pleasure to work with. I have never heard anyone say a bad work about either of them. In competitive sports, this is rare.
In the results driven arena of elite athletics, being afforded the chance to work with very gifted athletes who do all that you ask of them, offers my staff and I a real life laboratory to see what works and what does not. I realize this is not only a great responsibility but a profound privilege. For this I will be forever grateful to them putting their trust in myself and my staff.

The Unknown Olympian:
PHASE IV ATHLETE KIM RHODE
Kim Rhode Wins Bronze, Makes Olympic History

The 37-year-old American won a medal for her sixth consecutive Olympics on Friday, capturing bronze in the skeet shooting event at the Olympic Shooting Center.
It's a stunning accomplishment from Rhode, who becomes the first female Olympian to medal in six consecutive games, and the first summer Olympian as well. Only Italian luger
Armin Zoeggeler
has done it on the men's side.
Rhode's bronze medal match ended in a shoot-off, after both she and China's Meng Wei hit 15 of 16 clays. Rhode missed a clay in her first round of the shoot-off, but Meng followed by missing one of her own. Three rounds later, Meng missed her final clay to hand the bronze to Rhode.
Rhode lifted her arm to the sky when she realized she'd done it. She then walked over to the stands, where her husband handed her their 3-year-old son for a long hug.
"Being a mom, having a son here, it's amazing," she said. "I hope that he remembers this. We've taken tons of pictures trying to capture the moment."
