The Deaconess Ministry serves members by providing spiritual care and acts of mercy. Each month, the Deaconess Ministry prepares for the corporate observance of the ordinances of the Church – Communion and Baptism.
If you or someone you know would make an excellent candidate with a heart to serve, please feel free to leave a message for Deaconess Chair S. Jamila Buckner via the Church office at 510-544- 8910 or email here.

Caution and Safety
COVID is Still With Us!
| |
SARS CoV2 continues to be prevalent! Most of us know people who have had COVID and it is a blessing that most of them have not been too ill or required hospitalization. Nevertheless, the virus is prevalent so should continue to be diligent. Vaccines continue to be very helpful against COVID leading to hospitalization and death, but this means a minimum of three shots. If you get COVID, now there are medicines that are effective in treating the illness, such as Paxlovid. Out of an abundance of caution, the Return to Church Task Force is continues to encourages everyone to:
- Get vaccinated and boosted
- Wear good masks, N95 or KN95
- If you are feeling sick, even slightly, please stay at home
- Minimize hugging and hand shaking during the Welcome
- Follow the Ushers' instructions both for entering and exiting the sanctuary.

National Council of Negro Women
Super Soul Sunday
| |
The East Oakland-Hayward Section is a proud member of National Council of Negro Women, Inc., one the nation’s oldest African American Women’s organizations. After more than 85 years, NCNW is 2,000,000 members strong with more than 200 community- based sections throughout the United States.
NCNW’s concern about the health and well-being of African American women and their families goes back to our founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. While many of you probably know that Dr. Bethune founded the historic Bethune-Cookman University in Florida, what you may not know is that in 1911, this outstanding woman also founded the first hospital and training school for Black nurses, the Mary McLeod Hospital and Training School for nurses in Daytona Beach, Florida. At the time this was the only school of its kind that served African American women on the east coast.
NCNW continues to be concerned about health disparities that keep many African Americans from enjoying healthy lives. One of our initiatives is the Good Health WINs (Women’s Immunization Networks). This is NCNW’s commitment to addressing health disparities and shining the light on the importance of good health in the African American community and communities of color.
Specifically, NCNWs goal is to increase the immunization rates for all vaccine preventable diseases that disproportionally impact our community. This includes COVID, the flu, pneumonia, measles, mumps, Rubella, Shingles, HPV and others.
NCNW is asking the Allen Temple church to make good health a priority in your lives, and in the lives of your families and our community. Demonstrating this commitment to Good Health is easy. Just encourage your friends and loved ones to Get the Facts by talking with their health care providers and Boost the Truth that vaccines save lives..

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.
Malachi 3:10 NRSV
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
