Here Comes Peter Cottontail
Cheboygan Main Street is getting ready for our 3rd Annual Downtown Cheboygan Easter Egg Hunt, which will take place on Saturday April 8th at 10am. Over 2,000 colorful eggs will be stuffed with candy and hidden at Washington Park for children 5 and under, and at Major City Park for children 6 and up. This year, to make it a bit more challenging for the older kids, we will also be hiding eggs on the Children's Trail (located in Major City Park). Bring your baskets, and dress for the weather (we've had snow and rain the last two years). If we need to postpone or cancel the event due to weather, we will make the announcement at 8am the day of the event on our Facebook page. @downtowncheboygan.

Welcome to Cheboygan Main Street!
Cheboygan’s Main Street has changed dramatically in the last 7 years. Main Street is the focus of the city, its thoroughfare, its primary commercial zone. 7 years ago is also when Cheboygan became a member of the Michigan Main Street program, and a new attitude in downtown Cheboygan emerged.
The Cheboygan Main Street program has involved hundreds of volunteers, extensive training, countless meetings, and volunteer projects, to help change attitudes and bring stakeholders together working toward the same goals.
In 2016, there were more than 22 vacant storefronts along Cheboygan’s downtown Main Street. Today, they are nearly all filled, with thriving new businesses. The Cheboygan Main Street program helped greatly to spur the transformation.
Extensive community input focused the Cheboygan Main Street team to adopt “Family Friendly, Arts and Entertainment” as the Cheboygan Main Street transformation strategy. That community vision is the guide to planning, programs, and investment, in the downtown district.

Art on Main Street -
Ninja Monkey Tattoo
Main Street Cheboygan features all types of art. There are shops that sell art, shops that are decorated with art, and there are pop-up shops that display and sell a wide variety of art for a limited time. There is one shop on Main Street that designs and creates art all day, every day, year-round—Ninja Monkey Tattoo.
Tattooing is one of the oldest art forms. The earliest documenting of tattoos dates to Bronze-Age man around 3300 BCE. “Otzi the Iceman,” was found in a glacier of the Otztal Alps, near the border between Austria and Italy. He had 57 tattoos.
Ninja Monkey Tattoo, in business since 2014, relocated from outside Cheboygan to a Main Street location in 2016. Their reputation has grown steadily and is a destination for clients from all over the state. Reviews emphasize the creativity, comfort-level, and cleanliness of the business. Owner, Ben Dratnol, who has been tattooing for 18 years, is an award-winning artist, having participated in many tattoo festivals throughout the country. Mari Hesselink, called the “creator,” is part of the team, having taught Dratnol the art of tattooing years ago.
