Library News

Five new books have been added recently to our church library, and they are displayed on the cart just outside the library, adjacent to Rodda Hall. The books are: How To Know A Person by David Brooks, This Land Is Their Land by David Silverman, Help, Thanks, Wow by Anne Lamott, On The Threshold Of Transformation by Richard Rohr, and The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse by Charlie Macksey.

The CUMC Library has more than 2,200 books and DVDs, all of which are listed in a searchable PDF file that you can access and download at www.chathamumc.com, by clicking on CUMC library

Each book is shelved and categorized (e.g., inspiration, prayer, history, biography, fiction). An old-fashioned card file is located in the top drawer of the left cabinet, where you can search by title or author.

Come in and browse. You might find a good summer read! Just sign and place the library card in the box on the cart. Any questions? Contact Ron Yarger at ryarger@optonline.net. Happy reading!

Community Events

8th Annual Jaime Pinaire

5K Race and Fun Run

Saturday, June 1

The Jaime Pinaire 5K Race & Fun Run is named for the son of Joan and Jim Pinaire, the founders of the James A Pinaire III Foundation. Jaime tragically lost his life in a terrible car accident in December 2014 on his way home from teaching Saturday classes at the Robert Treat Academy in Newark. His dad, Jim, is a valued volunteer at our Food Distribution on Wednesday afternoons.

Jaime played football and baseball during his time at Chatham High School. He remained an avid athlete throughout college and afterwards. He became interested in endurance events, particularly Spartan races. He completed a Sprint, Super, and Beast in one year to conquer Spartan's ultimate challenge — the Trifecta.

Holding a 5K race and Fun Run is a fitting celebration of Jaime's interests while raising money to continue his work in helping educate students with a financial need.  All proceeds of the race benefit the James A Pinaire III Foundation which provides scholarships to graduates of Chatham High School and the Robert Treat Academy.

The USATF certified 5K course is flat and fast, starting and finishing at Chatham High School on Lafayette Avenue, and passing by Jaime's childhood home and through the beautiful Rolling Hills neighborhood of Chatham. There are splits every mile and one water stop at roughly the half-way mark.

The 1 Mile Fun Run is on and around Chatham High School grounds and available for those who want a shorter distance. All ages are welcome!

CUMC Food Pantry

Thank you

Center Street Chiropractic

Last year, Center Street Chiropractic on Main St., Chatham donated a $500 Shoprite gift card to help support those in our community who are food insecure. Below is a picture of the shopping cart full of peanut butter, tuna, pasta, rice, etc. which we purchased last week using some of the gift card. These items were handed out at the CUMC Food Distribution last Wednesday afternoon. Food insecurity continues to be a problem in our area and we are very grateful to all those who donate food items, gift cards, money, time, and effort.

Help keep our food pantry and weekly distribution sustained.
