How can I show people in Costco that I love Jesus?
O Eternal God, who committest to us the swift and solemn trust of life; Since we know not what a day may bring forth, but only that the hour for serving thee is ever present, may we wake to the instant claims of Thy holy will, not waiting for tomorrow, but yielding today. Lay to rest, by the persuasion of Thy Spirit, the resistance of our passion, our indolence, or our fear. Consecrate with Thy presence the way in which our feet may go, so that the humblest work may shine and the rough places may be made plain. Lift us above unrighteous anger and mistrust, into faith, and hope, and charity. In all things draw us close to our Savior Christ, that Thy lost image may be traced in us again, and all people, looking at us, may know that we have been with Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
–James Martineau, 1839.
The above prayer is one of the last prayers said during the Good Friday service, in the Cross of Christ’s Glory. I’ve read this prayer every Good Friday for the past ten years, and it wasn’t until this year that it made an impression on me.
In particular, it’s the last line that hits home: "In all things draw us closer to our Savior Christ, that Thy lost image may be traced in us again, and all people, looking at us, may know that we have been with Thee…”
I love the idea of God’s lost image being traced in us, and that when people look at us they somehow know that we’ve been with God. It helps to answer the question I asked my first Sunday at St. Francis, “How can I show people in Costco that I love Jesus?” Give God control, and people will see God in you. Easy, right? Not at first, and not for a while…actually, it won’t ever be easy, but it will be manageable.
The more we pray to do God’s will, the more opportunities we will find to God’s will. It’s a scary idea, because God’s ways are not our ways, nor God’s will our will; it’s scary, but it’s good, and like many good things, or things good for us, it’s not until we’ve passed it that we realize how good it was.

Rev. Jason's Week in Review...
April 20: Gave a presentation about Christianity and my journey to the priesthood at Mrs. Webster’s comparative religion class at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School; had lunch with the Rev. Rachel Nyback from St. Cross; various admin tasks.
April 21: Finished article for the e-news; prepared my sermon; Jennifer and I went out on a date - dinner, followed by the PVPHS Chamber and Symphony Orchestra at St. Francis - they were both amazing, and hard to believe that they were in high school.
April 22: A priest, deacon, and the priest’s family went to the Renaissance Faire - where they were some of the only people not dressed up (ironic, given Celeste and I wear medieval garb every Sunday).
April 23: Church services; coffee hour after church lasted nearly or just over an hour!
April 24: Caught up on returning email; pastoral phone calls; worked on a super secret plan for Sundays.
April 25: Went on a ride-along with a sheriff’s deputy from the LA County Sheriff’s department; pastoral visits; Taizé service.
April 26: Worked on memorial bulletin; pastoral phone call; admin tasks; finalized and printed a different funeral bulletin.
It's easy to schedule a meeting with Rev. Jason!

Draw Neighbors to Our Community of Faith!
Saturday, June 17th "Doors Open Peninsula", 9am - 4:30pm
Palos Verdes Archivist Monique Sugimoto is organizing this event to mark the 100th Anniversary of the "Real Estate Rally" that took place in Malaga Cove on June 17th, 1923.
The event will highlight several historical buildings in PV, and our St. Francis chapel is among those that will be featured.
Of course this is a fantastic opportunity for St. Francis to not only share the history of our chapel, but to also highlight our community of faith, through what we have to offer present-day through our church services and various ministries! We have a team of people collecting and creating literature to distribute, refreshments to serve, and docents to share our Chapel's many stories. Watch our enews updates to learn more.
