My First Clergy Conference!!

This past Monday I went to my first Clergy Conference in the Diocese of Los Angeles, and it was wonderful.

We stayed and met at the Mission Inn and Spa in Riverside, an incredibly beautiful setting for what turned out to be a wonderful time of camaraderie, worship, and reflection.

I was able to meet several priests from all parts of the Diocese, from Thousand Oaks to Beaumont, briefly talk with the Bishop, meet two priests from Mississippi and two priests from Indiana, one of whom is from Warsaw, Indiana, the city of my sending parish (though she was a Presbyterian when she lived in Warsaw).

I was also able to spend quality time with my peers from Deanery 8. Our speaker this year was Debie Thomas, who is a priest at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palo Alto, and the author of 'Into the Mess and Other Jesus Stories: Reflections on the life of Christ'. She spoke about the importance of lament - owning what it is that we are grieving, and taking our pain to Christ, who then transforms it into hope, and from this hope we are pulled further into communion. She is an incredibly engaging speaker, and there was a great deal of discussion during our plenary sessions.

As with any Episcopal function, there was plenty of good food, and endless pots of coffee!

The Breakfast and Showers Program for the Unhoused at St. Luke's Episcopal Church needs more volunteers.

Our parish is responsible for breakfast for 120 people on the third Saturday of odd-numbered months. To fulfill this obligation, we need at least 10 people at the St. Francis kitchen from 4-6 on the Friday night before to prepare the food. We also need at least eight people at St. Luke's on Saturday morning from 7:15 to about 9:30.

Please consider helping out! Our next event is on May 20, with preparation happening on Friday, May 19. If you can't help in May, keep these dates in mind:

July 14, 15
September 16, 17
November 17, 18

Email Gayle Taylor, Minister for Outreach with your interest and availability. This is a wonderful ministry and a great chance to serve others as Christ served.

Draw Neighbors to Our Community of Faith!
Saturday, June 17th "Doors Open Peninsula", 9am - 4:30pm

Palos Verdes Archivist Monique Sugimoto is organizing this event to mark the 100th Anniversary of the "Real Estate Rally" that took place in Malaga Cove on June 17th, 1923.

The event will highlight several historical buildings in PV, and our St. Francis chapel is among those that will be featured.

Of course this is a fantastic opportunity for St. Francis to not only share the history of our chapel, but to also highlight our community of faith, through what we have to offer present-day through our church services and various ministries! We have a team of people collecting and creating literature to distribute, refreshments to serve, and docents to share our Chapel's many stories. Watch our enews updates to learn more.
