Greetings!
As many of you will know The Voice has started again on BBC 1 and you can currently spend your Saturday evenings watching hopeful singers audition and be judged purely on their voice, as the judges have their back to the singers. A fascinating experiment is to do as the judges do and not look at the singers before you hear them ... try it and see if you imagine the voice you hear belonging to the person you see; we make sweeping assumptions about a person before they speak!
You may not be aware that all this week Radio2 is also running The Voice Week with various programmes celebrating and exploring "the most magical, incredible, beautiful instrument ever created: the human voice". Amongst a range of programmes, on Friday 19 th April at 1pm Jeremy Vine will be inviting the UK's best-loved and best-known voices to take part in an extraordinary broadcast. The Radio 2 Voice Party. Imagine sharing a drink with The London Underground, Tony the Tiger, Postman Pat, Siri, Big brother, the National Lottery and Mr X Factor all in one studio at the same time.
As Jacqueline Bisset said " Your voice is your tool and represents you. It's very important to have a good voice where you can be understood". We would go even further and say it's also very important to understand how changes in your vocal tone can change what others understand you to have said! It's the difference between shouting "Come over here" angrily at someone and whispering it seductively at them!
In a much smaller way than the BBC we thought we would offer our own insights into The Voice -we can't offer a TV or Radio programme but we can give you free access to listen to the webinar Annie Farr (one of our amazingly talented actresses) recorded on Creating a Voice Others Want to Listen to for The Lemon Club. It's one of the free downloads on our new website which you can register for here.
Additionally if you want to work on a particular aspect of your voice we have also created an MP3 of our CD Power of the Voice which is also available from our website via this link at a lower cost than the CD itself.
If you're more concerned about the way you communicate your purpose via your image then take a look at The Lemon Club webinar this month - it's all about aligning your image to your intention.
And if you would like to address your communication skills in your own time with an element of accountability we are about to launch a Lemon Club Book Club In the High Wycombe/South Bucks area. So if you would like to work on all aspects of your communication in a supportive group of like minded individuals we will be starting the first group soon - see below.
