SPRINGING INTO SUMMER

at Healing Transitions.

Our days around campus have been marked by celebration as we've transitioned from spring to summertime. Celebration of legacy, gratitude, family, partnership, pride, and countless journeys of recovery! We hope these exciting updates and compelling stories of healing and progress will encourage you as much as they have us. Let them be a reminder that recovery IS possible for all!

AN UNMATCHED LEGACY

blessed by the best.

It is with heavy hearts that we gathered on May 30th to honor the life of our beloved Raeford Williams, Silver Chip #85. Raeford served as our Men's Campus Shelter Monitor for more than two decades, deeply impacting the lives of everyone he encountered. His unwavering commitment to "walking the walk" was matched by his genuine love and his ability to listen and empathize. Raeford played a pivotal role in the healing of hundreds over the years, leaving behind a profound legacy of compassion and dedication that will live on for years to come. When asked to reflect on the impact of Raeford's life, one participant shared, "Before Raeford, I haven't had a man tell me he loved me in years."

Our deepest condolences go out to Raeford's family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Raeford. You will be missed, and we love you!

CELEBRATING GRATITUDE

with our recovery champions.

We gathered in May for our second annual Gratitude Dinner, celebrating our Recovery Champions—individuals, businesses, and foundations who have contributed $5,000 or more to Healing Transitions' annual fund—demonstrating their unwavering commitment to our mission. Their generosity paves the way for countless journeys of recovery, offering hope and healing to those in need.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Board Chair, Mick Quinlan, and Board Member, Caitlin Elliott, for exemplifying the vital role our board leadership plays in supporting our work. Additionally, we thank Keynote Speaker Myron Richard (Wake County Assistant District Attorney and Silver Chip #490) for sharing his recovery journey, and alumnus Chef Derek Jones (along with several others) for their help in making this an extraordinary event.

As we reflect on a successful year and celebrate our second Gratitude Dinner for our major donors, we eagerly anticipate what the future holds for this esteemed giving community. Together, we champion recovery, making a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Thank you for your support!

FAMILY STRONG

no matter what.

At the beginning of April, we launched our Family Strong spring campaign, setting out to raise $75,000 in 30 days. And thanks to the overwhelming support of our Village, we not only met our goal, but we far exceeded it raising a total of $107,113.

Thank you to all 122 generous donors (including 22 first-time supporters) for providing one week of recovery services to 278 individuals and their families! Your support truly unleashed the ripple effect we envisioned and is transforming entire communities.

We concluded our campaign with our inaugural Family Strong Walk at Lake Johnson on May 11th, gathering alongside family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate recovery. Thank you to our family group for driving the inspiration behind this campaign, and to everyone who joined us for the walk! Together, we will always be Family Strong.

“Addiction is a huge problem. It’s bigger than the individual or a family member. Without support, it’s almost impossible to handle alone. I’ve seen families experience extreme stress from trying to manage it all by themselves."

PRIDE AND ACCEPTANCE

love. love. love.

At Healing Transitions, fostering inclusivity for ALL is paramount to our mission, which is why we stand proudly in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community, offering open arms and loving support every day of the year (not just in June). We understand the importance of providing a safe and empowering environment, and we recognize the unique challenges faced by this community.

Research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (May 2024) reports higher rates of substance use disorders among sexual and gender minorities (LGBTQ+), which only further underscores the necessity for inclusive support systems. By acknowledging these challenges, we strive to ensure that everyone feels valued and supported on their journeys to healing and recovery.

Recovery Gets Creative

To kick off June in style, both our Men’s and Women’s Campuses celebrated Spirit Week with energy and creativity. From wacky outfits to a daily fashion show contest, the vibrant spirits of all involved (including both participants and staff) filled our campuses, boosting morale and infusing fun into our daily routines. It was heartwarming to see our community rally together and we hope you enjoy these fun photos. It's moments like these that truly embody the spirit of recovery and community.

Run for Love

One of Healing Transitions' highlights every June is participating in Run for Love, where we joined together as a united front alongside our Pride community to celebrate love and create lasting memories.

A big thank you to Runologie and Trophy Brewing for organizing this fantastic event!

Rainbow Warriors

We recently had the privilege of sitting down with Timmy Fox, facilitator of the Rainbow Warriors' meetings, and two other frequenters, Arthur and Austin. Rainbow Warriors provides a space where everyone is embraced, encouraged to share openly, and accepted without judgment. Their stories and insights remind us of the power of support and love.

“Just to see the open-mindedness of people who are willing to come together shows other participants that no matter race, color, or sex, we're all in this together, side by side."

RECOVERY + FITNESS

building healthy habits.

Exercise is widely recognized as a positive outlet for overall well-being, especially for those in recovery. That's why Healing Transitions prioritizes fitness and outdoor activities.

Run Club

Since 2018, our Run Club has been using fitness to provide a means of helping individuals in recovery trade in their negative addictions for healthy ones, building camaraderie with peers outside of the shelter walls. If you're interested in joining us at our Men's Campus on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. for a run, please contact Sarah Rapp at saraharapp@gmail.com.

Road to Recovery AA Cycling Club

It's time to introduce you to our fitness family's latest addition - the Road to Recovery AA Cycling Club. By putting a positive spin on recovery, this group uses cycling as a means of connecting with nature, each other, and their respective recovery journeys. And just like Run Club, our Cycling Club welcomes anyone (from inside or outside our walls) who is eager to ride, exercise, and engage in recovery activities. If you're interested in joining us for a spin, show up at our Men's Campus on Fridays at 6:15 p.m.

Special thanks to Community Kickstand, Church of the Good Shepherd, Peak Church, Oak City Cycling, and Cycle Logic for their generous contributions of bikes and bike parts. Because of your support, everyone who wants to ride can now hit the trails!
