Pediatric Mental Health Advocacy Panel Members

& Circle of Support Members

As part of AAP California’s effort to help our members address increased mental health concerns among children and youth, we are announcing a new initiative to support and influence California’s statewide reforms in mental health services.


Thanks to recent grant funding, we are recruiting 6 Pediatric Mental Health Advocacy Panel Members from January – September 2023 to influence proposed statewide reforms, such as Cal-Aim and the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative. We are also looking for Circle of Support Members who will meet intermittently and provide feedback and support for the grant activities.

South Valley Member-at-Large

The chapter board position for South Valley Member-At-Large has become vacant and we would like to fill this position for the 2022-2023 term.


As a MAL, you are the conduit between the Board and the Region. Here are some of the responsibilities of the Member-At-Large

  • Assess the needs, including advocacy opportunities, of the local region and address them
  • Consider, implement, and lead engagement activities in the local region to foster a sense of community
  • Provides 2-way communication between the specific region and the organization’s board
  • Routinely engage and communicate with members:
  • Reports on regional activities and needs to the Board of Directors
  • Consider partaking in committees/task Forces
  • May be utilized as a local representative to the media requests
  • Promote membership, recruitment, and retention campaigns
  • Write a newsletter article once a year

Early Career Physician Representative

Our Early Career Physician Chapter Representative position is currently vacant. If you are interested, we encourage you to apply for this position so we can hear about what is most important to you and implement it within our chapter. The position description along with the role and responsibilities are listed below. 


Term: Two years

Qualification(s): A current member in good standing of the chapter and of the Section on Early Career Physicians

Appointment Process: The Executive Committee will review the applicant’s CV and inform the applicant of the appointment.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the ECP Committee Chair and contact person for chapter leadership to voice the “ECP perspective”
  • Reach out to new ECP chapter members (new member info will be provided periodically by the SOECP) in order to provide your contact information and engage these new members in chapter activities
  • Participate in two phone conferences annually (April and November) with SOECP leadership and other chapter representatives, and serve as the chapter contact point for your district ECP representative.
  • Outreach to residency programs:
  • Coordinate yearly presentations to residents on ECPs and the AAP (details will be provided)
  • Serve as the ECP contact person for the representative from the Section on Pediatric Trainees (SOPT)

Position Descpription

Chapter Immunization Representative

The Chapter Immunization Representative (CIR) is a voluntary position that serves as an immunization expert and contact for chapter immunization activities. The ideal candidate is a pediatrician, a member of the AAP and chapter, and has direct experience and/or familiarity with delivering vaccines and working with the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program. 


The CIR assists in the development and coordination of chapter immunization activities and educational programs; provides technical assistance to chapter leadership, staff and members and other health professionals on immunization-related topics; communicates with the state immunization program; and serves as a liaison between the chapter and national AAP on immunization issues.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a communication liaison between the national AAP and the AAP chapter on immunization issues, providing information about the state immunization program or other immunization needs/barriers experienced by chapter members.
  • Assist in the planning and development of immunization-focused educational sessions at chapter and/or district meetings.
  • Serve as the primary chapter point-of-contact for the state immunization program (eg, Immunization Information Systems, VFC, etc.)
