KUDOS
"Thank you for all your understanding, caring and compassion when I had to abandon the service at almost the last minute on Sunday, April 7. I walked into the building at 8:30 am. only to receive a phone call from husband that he was "having chest pains and had called 911".
Fortunately, he is doing well. It was not a heart attack. Instead, it was SVT, or Supra -Ventricular Tachycardia, a racing heartbeat of more than 200 beats per minute. Cardioversion in the emergency room has corrected the problem- for now. He was hospitalized for 28 hours, and is now at home resuming his normal activities. It may have been an after-effect of COVID.
Great gratitude to Pam Collins. who stepped in to read the service. Pam was already on deck to do the sermon about religious language in dialog with me, and to serve as service leader. She did a superb job of reading the entire service, including both parts of the sermon. KUDOS to Pam and all of you who stepped up to assist.
In gratitude, Rev. Linda"
...to Pam Collins for conducting service on April 7, and Sharon Babala for asking "What can I do to help?" which involved reading, chalice lighting/extinguishing, and other Service Associate roles on short notice.
...to Reg Foster for repainting a portion of our kitchen and making it look so nice!
...to the Reception Committee for being flexible and willing to the change the location of Sally Knapp's reception, and Betsy Wright and Ilene Kane for greeting and guiding visitors.
An Invitation for your stories
May 12 is Mothers Day. At Albany UU, we’ll be celebrating the mothers and fathers — the parents — of this church. Please share your story with Rev. Lynn of someone whose story — or any story from this congregation’s past — that has inspired you. In what way/s and/or how — has that person or story made a difference in your life? While we won’t have time to share all of your stories during the service, we will find a way to share them. Please send your messages to revlynnashley@albanyuu.org by May 1.
An Invitation to Veterans
If you have served in any capacity in the military, please join me (Rev. Lynn) for conversation as I prepare for our Memorial Day service, Sunday, May 26. Four times have been set aside for sharing in person or by zoom:
Saturday, April 20, at 10:00 by zoom (link to be provided)
Sunday, April 28, after the morning service
Monday, May 6, at 10:30 for coffee at the church
Thursday, May 16, at noon at the church (Bring a sandwich if you’d like)
Please let me know which time (or times) you’re available. If none of them works, I’d still like to hear from you at revlynnashley@albanyuu.org.
SAVING THE ORGAN - Last Call - We Need to hear from you by April 14.
Fifteen people responded to our request in Windows Weekly for thoughts and feelings about what should happen to the organ in the old sanctuary. Twelve people were in favor of keeping it, four said, “let it go” and a couple were in both camps.
A compendium of the comments may be read HERE.
If you want to work on saving the organ we need to hear from you by April 14, 2024. After that time, we will recruit a chair for the project and a meeting will be held for all interested parties. If you are interested in working on this project please let us know how you would like to be involved by completing this form: https://fuusa.breezechms.com/form/a10f658929. Read more about the scope of work HERE.
Upcoming Memorial Services

No Video Recording for March 10: Growing Up and Growing Older
Unfortunately, we accidentally neglected to record March 10's service "Growing Up and Growing Older." We thank the service leaders and youth who made this service possible and we apologize that there is no recording.
Neuroscience of Spirituality
In the service on April 7, a few folks found it difficult to hear the video played, "Neuroscience of Spirituality." Here is the link for those interested:

Meet the Candidates
In this period of transition to a new settled minister, new and important responsibilities must be undertaken by the leaders of our community. Beginning with the upcoming election in May, we will be choosing those who will guide us through our transition and select the members of our Ministerial Search Team. It is therefore, all the more important we take the upcoming election seriously and choose wisely.
Our bylaws require that only the Nominating Committee have contested elections. They also permit other nominations from the community for any open position. The Nominating Committee received no such nominations, so the only contested election is for the five open seats on the Nominating Committee. Nevertheless, in order to better get to know those members of our community who are willing to shoulder the responsibilities of leadership, we strongly suggest you read the attached candidate biographies and plan to attend at least one of the two Meet the Candidates events we have planned. The first (in-person) meeting will be in Community Hall on Sunday, April 21 following the service. The second (Zoom) meeting will be on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 pm. You can join the meeting at: https://tinyurl.com/AlbanyUU-Conversation
