NAHRO's August advocacy has an ambitious goal of sending 8,501 letters to Capitol Hill by the end of the month! This week's topic is Increased Access to Resident Services.
The pandemic has exposed the need for more resiliency in communities across the country. Public housing agencies (PHAs) are well-positioned to make this happen. The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS), Jobs Plus, Resident Opportunity and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) programs help PHAs provide residents with important supportive services, resident empowerment activities, and economic upward mobility. These programs allow PHAs to develop local approaches for residents to increase earnings, advance employment outcomes, save money, and start their own businesses.
Additionally, Congress and the White House have still not approved additional COVID-19 relief to help those families struggling with unemployment and facing the threat of eviction. Please keep sending the Week 1 letter every single day until a relief package that includes HUD and rent support is signed into law.
And of course, you're welcome to continue to send a letter for any of the weekly topics, listed below!
- August 3: COVID-19 Response Resources
- August 10: Universal Voucher Program
- August 17: Increase housing supply
- August 24: Opening Opportunities for Families
- August 31: FY 2021 Transportation - HUD Funding
NAHRO has made it easy to send a letter to your congressional delegation through it's Advocacy Action Center.
