CONTACT YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS
As you know, the Senate has included in its version of the state budget changes that would effectively kill the Film & Television Production Incentive program. The Senate budget would place a cap on the amount of above-the-line spending that can be used towards the calculation of the credit.

If adopted it would drive major film and television production out of the state, and make Massachusetts uncompetitive. The result would cripple a strong and growing local industry, cost thousands of local jobs, harm small businesses across the state, remove investment in industry infrastructure, and force new graduates from our film and media programs to leave Massachusetts in search of jobs.

In the last 5 years, at least 20 major productions would not have come to the Commonwealth if the proposed cap had been in effect, including:  The Judge ,  Olive Kitteridge ,  American Hustle ,  Black Mass ,  Joy ,  Ghostbusters ,  Patriots Day ,  The Finest Hours , and  Daddy's Home 2 .

Make no mistake: major productions will leave and choose not to come to Massachusetts if this change happens.

FILM JOBS STATE HOUSE VISIT

WEDNESDAY JUNE 14th

On Wednesday, June 14th industry members will go to the State House to ask our legislators to preserve the film and television production incentive and to not make changes to it. Attendees can arrive anytime between 10:00 AM to 12:00 NOON at Church on the Hill (140 Bowdoin Street, Boston). You will receive a packet and any assistance you need to visit your legislators offices. There will not be sign-holding or a speaker program, only legislative visits.

Watch for an online sign up form this week.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The House budget has no changes to the film tax incentive program. Over the next few weeks the state budget Conference Committee (composed of 3 Senators and 3 Representatives) will work out the differences in the Senate and House budget to develop a final state budget.  Your legislators need to hear from you to prevent this change from being included in the final budget and becoming law.
