Sermon Series: Plot Twist

We’ve seen them in movies and read them in stories; plot twists are literary techniques that introduce a radical change in the direction or expected outcome of a plot. In the Book of Acts, one of the most significant plot twists in the history of God’s people is about to take place, but this one should point us back to the greatest plot twist when God came to earth and defeated sin and death. Join us as we follow the path the Spirit leads us on, to the very ends of the earth.

Scene 2: Cornelius's Vision

Sunday, June 16th

In Acts 10 we are introduced to a new character, Cornelius. Though he is a Gentile Centurion of the Italian Cohort, he is described as a man who feared God, whose family feared God, who was generous and selfless, and who prayed continually to God. This week, we will see how God goes before the church, working in the hearts of those He is working to bring into relationship with Him. Join us this week as we explore this incredible narrative and consider its impact on our own lives.

Daily Prayers, Digging Deeper Guide and coordinating Life Group Curriculum are available each week on Sunday to further explore this Sermon Series. You can find those resources (for this week and ALL previous weeks) HERE or at the Welcome Center on Sunday.

Adventure:Kids News

This week, in Adventure:Kids, the kids will read a passage from Acts 2 and continue to try to answer the big picture question, "How does the Holy Spirit help Christians?" They will learn that God kept His promise to send the Holy Spirit, and gives the Holy Spirit to everyone who trusts in Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Key Passage: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23

We can't wait to see you this Sunday!

Sermon notes and challenges for families are available on the Adventure:Kids Facebook page, OR click here for a pdf version.

Updated Summer Office Hours

With Summer comes a lot of changes for our staff... many of us have kids home for the summer and need some flexibility to work from home, there are a wider variety of events that we work different hours for, and with Summer Sabbath approaching, a change in office hours allows us some flexibility to participate in some Sabbath rest alongside all of you and not have to stress about office coverage. So starting next week, see us during our office hours above, or call or email us to make an appointment outside of these posted hours!

Let's Do Lunch

Thursday, June 20th, 11:30am-1:30pm at Olalla Bay Market

This will be a potluck like last year in Olalla Bay Market's meeting room. Attendance is limited to 34 people. Last year we had 29 participants who gave glowing reports. Carpooling is suggested as parking lot is small. New theme this year, so come see what it will be. RSVP to Marilyn Vivian by 6/18 if you can make it, as well as specifying if you will bring a main dish, side dish, or dessert. This will prevent 10 bowls of potato salad.

Marilyn Vivian: Text to 360-443-2206, or email Marilyn.

Adventure hosts Family Kitchen

Friday, June 21st at 5:00pm at First Lutheran

Family Kitchen meals are available the last two Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays of each month at First Lutheran Community Church at 5 pm. If you, or someone you know, is in need of a meal, please consider stopping by to grab dinner (no questions asked!).

We Need YOUR Help!  Please prayerfully consider if you might be able to volunteer once a month or on a rotation to help serve our community in this way. The number of people we are serving at Family Kitchen is increasing, and we are in great need of some additional help.

We also rely on the generosity of our congregation in providing the food for each meal. Please look for the clipboards that will go around during service on Sunday to sign up OR SIGN UP HERE NOW! If you have any questions or need more info, please email Natalie or Leslie!

Summer Sabbath

The Month of July

Each Summer, we take one month as a church to Sabbath from our typical rhythms of church life. We press pause on the sermon series we are doing and reorient our hearts and minds on the Lord through rest in Him. We pare down our worship services, various ministries, meetings, and training opportunities to create space for our church family to rest, reorient, and refocus on the Lord. It isn’t about merely taking a break; it’s about trusting in the Lord. It’s about celebrating Him, who He is, and what He’s done. It is an opportunity to remind ourselves that He is in control, and it is our greatest desire and greatest joy to submit to Him and His Lordship in our lives.

We'll have opportunities and resources available to prompt ways to engage this month of sabbath outside of Sunday mornings. We hope you’ll join us as we investigate this together in July.

(And we might just find a few bears along the way...)

Youth Summer Camp Registration

August 11th-14th at Black Diamond Camp

Our yearly trip to summer camp is a great time of team building and connecting for our teens and leaders in Adventure Youth. When we strip away technology, and take kids out of their regular context, it makes for an awesome opportunity to connect with God and one another.

Cost: $318/person. We are hosting multiple fundraisers in an effort to lower the cost of camp for every teen, so you can expect to see that number shrink!

In order to attend, the following must be completed:

1. Completion of the Adventure Youth Summer Camp registration form

2. Completion of Black Diamond Camp registration form (will be emailed to you upon completion of step 1)

3. Payment made in full the week before camp

Youth Summer Camp Fundraising!

As Youth Summer Camp approaches we are looking to help cover the cost of camp, so that every youth that wants to go to camp can, and we can cover the cost for our leaders! The remaining balance we have currently is $7,020, and so far we've raised $1716. If you want to help support our youth in this awesome opportunity, check out the pallet wall on Sunday, choose your adventure by grabbing an envelope of the donation amount of your choosing and follow the instructions provided. Any amount helps, and all funds raised will help reduce the cost of camp for each camper. Thanks for loving on our Adventure:Youth in this way!

This section is a weekly reminder that God is Good!

He is good to us every single day & we will praise His name!

This week Marcia is sharing a God is Good moment from Emmanuel’s Clothes Closet!

Emmanuel’s clothes closet is celebrating its 20th year serving the community of Kitsap County. It opened on June 12, 2004 God with us. We have seen God working by having the right clothes for that certain person or family when needed so their budget could go further. We have seen the homeless find that warm coat or clothes with God’s help. The closet with God’s blessing has not only clothed the many people here but also in Africa, Israel, and Ukraine. We thank God for the family of Adventure of Faith providing the clothes needed through donations, the faithful volunteers, and the permanent place we have. We give God all the glory and praise for His ministry, and we can be part of it.

God is Good!

This space in the newsletter is a small way we continue to celebrate the goodness of God all year long, and practice being aware of His presence in our lives. So, if you have stories of God's goodness big or small, hit reply to this email and send them our way. We would love to hear them, pray in praise over them and talk to you about sharing them.

To spur your thoughts to God's goodness start by asking yourself these questions:

What Good have you witnessed recently?

What Good has God brought into your life?

What Good has God prompted you to do for one another?

God is Good!!
