Day 1 | Welcome Message

Welcome to the Stollery

4E4 & 5G4

The staff welcome you to our unit and are here to support you.

Thank you for partnering with us to care for your child.

The following contains information to guide you during your child's stay.

Depending on the length of your stay, you will receive a welcome, day 2, 3, 4, discharge & your final survey text messages (6 total).

If there is urgent or daily information (free meals, events, etc.), you may receive additional messages.

You DO NOT have to request the messages to STOP as we will not send any further messages.

Texting "STOP" in response to the messages will impact if you can receive messages if admitted in the future.

Be sure to ask anyone on your health care team if you have any questions.

Wi-Fi Access

Free Wi-Fi is available via the “healthspot” wireless network.

For troubleshooting, visit The Family Room, 4H2.02 (4th floor).
Welcome from Staff
Message from Your Care Hub

A team of nurses (Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Healthcare Aides (HCA)), otherwise known as a Care Hub, will care for your child. You can expect all members to know about and provide elements of care.

Upon admission, you will be oriented to the unit. This includes information about COVID measures, safety features, how to access water, nutrition and other services. Ask us if you have any questions.

After shift change (7am and 7pm), you will be introduced to your new Care Hub (closer to 9 am to permit longer patient and parent sleep).
Health & Safety

Supporting/Visiting a Loved one at the Stollery

If you are experiencing symptoms of contagious illness like a new cough, fever, sore throat, nausea or runny nose please stay home until all symptoms have resolved.

Continuous masking and hand hygiene are necessary for designated family/support persons (DFSP) and visitor at all times.

Designated Family/Support Person is an individual identified by the patient as an essential support, and who the patient wants included in care planning and decision making.

In the event of limited access, priority is given to DFSPs as needed partners in care. Contact the service area before arriving to see if access limits are in place. Please review these access requirements.

**Please be sure to mask at your child's bedside when healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, etc.) enter your child's room.

One of the most effective ways to keep your child, yourself, other patients and staff safe is to wash or sanitize your hands regularly:
  • when you first arrive
  • before entering or leaving your child's room
  • before and after putting on and taking off your mask

Hand washing sinks are located inside your child's room.

Hand sanitizer is located at the entrances to the hospital, to units and your child's room.

It is always ok to ask any member of your health care team to wash their hands prior to providing care for your child.

RAPid Response Team

You know your child better than anyone else and we respect the knowledge you have about your child.

If you have an urgent medical concern about your child, you can push the call bell button, then talk to your nurse or doctor.

If you are still concerned, you feel your child is getting sicker or you want a second opinion, you can call the Rapid (RAP) Response Team.

Call the RAP Team if you are worried about your child's:

  • Breathing or heartbeat
  • Color
  • Sleepiness or restlessness
  • Or you feel your child is getting sicker

You can have a nurse call the RAP Team or you can call them yourself at 33# from any hospital phone.

Dial 33# from a hospital phon and tell the operator that you need the “Rapid Response Team to Unit ____ Room ____”. The room number is on the wall outside your child's room.
