MINNETONKA, Minnesota, February, 5, 2023 - Adler Graduate School (AGS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Solange Ribeiro as its President, starting February 1st, 2023. Dr. Ribeiro has been part of the AGS team for ten years, having served as faculty, director of the clinical mental health counseling program, director of quality assurance and accreditation, chief academic officer, and since May 2022 as Interim President.
Dr. Ribeiro is a native of Brazil, having come to the United States in 1989 to join the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as a scientist investigating mechanisms of cellular proliferation and wound healing. Between 1997 and 1999, while undergoing a career change, Dr. Ribeiro served UAB in two different capacities, as a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Pathology and as an adjunct instructor in the Rehabilitation Counseling program. Following the transition from biomedical sciences to human sciences, Dr Ribeiro had a successful clinical practice for 10 years, served as an Assistant Professor and Counseling Clinic Director at UAB’s School of Education, and served as Associate Scientist at the UAB Center for Educational Accountability. She moved to the Twin Cities and joined Adler Graduate School in 2012.
Since joining AGS, Dr. Ribeiro helped drive the effort to implement processes to guarantee the quality of education provided by Adler, including but not limited to the hiring and retention of high-quality, diverse full-time faculty; development and implementation of institutional assessment and quality assurance systems; institutional accreditation reaffirmation by the Higher Learning Commission; and national programmatic accreditation for both the art therapy and the counseling programs. More recently, Dr. Ribeiro led AGS staff, faculty, and the Board of Directors in developing the AGS strategic plan for the next four years.
As a Brazilian of European ancestry, female, scientist, and educator, and having lived in the Southern United States for more than 20 years, Dr. Ribeiro has firsthand experience of the complexities of privilege and marginalization. This awareness has served as a foundation for her life-long commitment to learning about and fighting for social justice.
"I see my Presidency as an opportunity to continue to build on AGS values of quality education, diversity, and Adlerian principles to increase accessibility, inclusion, and equity in higher education and mental health services and to contribute to the overall health of the communities touched by AGS students, graduates, staff, and faculty" said Dr. Ribeiro.
