We recently collaborated with the Breathing Association, a Central Ohio organization that has deep roots in the community. The 117-year-old association needed more space as its services grew and expanded. We purchased a historic building and created a lease-purchase option enabling the association to immediately expand its offerings.
Havens Limited was able to assemble a team that has core metro experience to power-up a long-time community asset. It’s an exciting time for the Breathing Association, which was launched back in 1906 in response to the tuberculosis epidemic.
Today, the association is Central Ohio’s leading resource for promoting lung health and preventing lung disease. It houses a lung health clinic, provides the Home Energy Assistance Program and offers other home outreach programming for underserved and underinsured communities. It is the oldest free clinic in Ohio.
The association’s new headquarters will open July 1 at 741 E. Broad St., after the building’s updates are completed. A Ribbon Cutting and Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25.
CEO and President Lori Sontag is thrilled with the new location. “We couldn’t have walked into a better building,” she says. "Thanks to Jim and his team, we are quickly able to move into a space that will allow for a major expansion of our services. We are grateful for this opportunity."
Breathing Association planners had been envisioning an office like this for months. The building will include five medical suites as well as space for X-rays and other laboratory work.
Sontag, who has been on the job for less than three years, has already increased grants given to the association from $2.8 million to $5.6 million this year. A capital campaign, which has a goal of $1.5 million, has been launched to raise funds that will purchase the building within its five-year lease period.
We are looking forward to the event’s ribbon cutting on June 25, followed by the organization’s Summerfest on July 1, where some clients will receive air conditioners and fans. This is just one of the many events and services that the association has done quietly in the community for many years.
It is our pleasure to be a philanthropic partner.
