Hearty, Winter Resistant Potted Plants

Here in Colorado, across the front range and in the foothills, the growing zones are typically between 4-6 according to the USDA's 2023 Plant Hardiness Map (below). As a good rule, choosing plants that are zoned 1-2 down from your home's zone will ensure plant survival if lower temperatures happen. For our service area, we suggest plants in zone 5.


Here are some plant varieties that work in pots outdoors for Zone 5:


 Another great way to add some color and interest to your outdoor spaces this winter is to create pots with a combination of cut logs or branches with white or reddish hues, evergreen, red berries, pine cones, rocks, etc. to create a custom planter, adding texture and dimension until spring comes round again.
