What is The Heirship Project?
The Heirship Project is a project aimed at educating and assisting residents who need help obtaining a clear property title.
What is Heir Property?
Heir property comes about when necessary legal work isn’t done after a property owner dies. Heirs who have a verbal agreement to live on the property, but no legal title could face many obstacles, including selling the property, making repairs on the property, or qualifying for government aid to fix damages to the home.

BankOn NELA: Budgeting
On Wednesday, October 18 and Wednesday, October 25, we hosted two BankOn NELA Budgeting workshops with Bank of Oak Ridge and Centric Federal Credit Union.
Participants learned that effectively managing finances is a fundamental skill that can greatly impact quality of life. The workshops were designed to empower participants with the knowledge and tools they need to create and maintain a successful budget. attendees were equipped with the skills and confidence needed to make informed decisions that will safeguard their financial future.
All workshops were held in person at the United Way NELA Financial Health Center / Miller Roy Building at 1001 Desiard Street in Monroe & on Zoom.

BankOn NELA: Frontline Training
On Tuesday, September 26, we held the BankOn NELA Frontline Training Event at Tower Place, with Amber Mathews, Chair of the Product Development Subcommittee at Origin Bank, as our featured presenter.
This event was specifically designed for our Platinum partners, those with certified accounts, as well as nonprofit organizations. We hope that you thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to enhance your skills!
We came together, learned, grew, and made a positive impact on our community!

Dollars & $ense is a financial education simulation in which students learn to make better financial decisions and gain knowledge of budgeting, saving, and spending. Volunteers will help with booths. | |

Financial Education Workshop
We kicked off our three-week financial education series with Ochsner LSU Health - Monroe Medical Center on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, and it was a tremendous success!
Here's a quick look back at what we covered during the event:
- Developed plans for spending and saving.
- Created systems for keeping financial records.
- Identified personal income and expenses using the Cash Flow Chart.
- Shared insights on BankOn NELA Certified Account options.

alli Management Solutions kicked off their 2023 United Way NELA Campaign with a camping-themed parking lot party! Employees were able to enjoy Johnny’s Pizza while they went fishing for prizes, nerf gun duck hunting, and roasted s’moores over a fire. Best of all, they had a dunking booth for their leadership team! Thank you to the campaign team at alli Management Solutions for making the UWNELA Campaign such fun for all!

Louisiana Tech University's faculty and staff enjoyed daily prizes over the first two weeks of their Workplace Campaign which were all donated by businesses and individuals throughout the community. Thank you to the dedicated faculty and staff of Tech and the devoted community members who continually show their support to United Way NELA! You continue to make a significant impact on the well-being of our community.

Staff Spotlight: Ke'Swanis Briscoe
Ke'Swanis serves as the Community Connection Specialist at United Way of Northeast Louisiana. She provides consistent and efficient customer service, as well as oversees the operation and office management of the Financial Health Center. She also provides administrative support and assistance to the Community Impact department.
Ke'Swanis is passionate about advocating for individuals in communities that are underserved. She is currently working to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurial Studies. She is also a small business owner of a local, online-based jewelry boutique.
Ke'Swanis enjoys cooking, baking, and spending quality time with her friends and family.
