Tomorrow, the House Education & Public Works committee will consider H.3656, the Complete Streets bill, sponsored by Charleston's Rep. Pendarvis, and supported by PCC and every organization listed way below.
This bill would require SCDOT develop a state policy to enable safer, multimodal streets. Please attend or email your legislator in support!
Tuesday, April 2, Room 433, ~2pm
Solomon Blatt Building, 1105 Pendleton St, Columbia
We are expecting a perfecting amendment that further refines the amendment that was proposed last week!

In a major victory, not easily won, and definitely not over,
last week the SC Livable Communities Alliance coalition advanced H.3656 successfully through House E&PW Transportation subcommittee. It received unanimous support with an amendment. This week it goes to full committee for its next vote.
South Carolina's pedestrian and bike fatalities have risen linearly for the past decade, and we currently are 50% higher than the national average.
When it's known that street design & street culture greatly influence traffic fatalities, it's important we do something about it. If every other Southeastern state has a state Multimodal "Complete Streets" policy, we can too, for the sake of fulfilling SCDOT's existing mandate to provide for the "safe transportation services for people.."
