URGE HOUSE TO ACT NOW TO END SURPRISE MEDICAL BILLS
With only a few session days remaining, there's still time to contact your state representative and ask them to pass HB 1862, the Surprise Balance Billing Protection Act. Urge your representative to vote yes to protect Pennsylvanians, especially during this time of COVID, from surprise medical bills.

HB1862 is of critical importance in a time when we don't want people to avoid medical care because of cost. Relief from surprise medical bills would ensure people who seek are not faced with financial devastation or even bankruptcy from a surprise bill. Take action.

One in three Commonwealth residents is a recipient of a surprise medical bill. It is a practice that occurs when patients are billed for the balance of the cost of care that wasn't covered by their insurance. Most of the time, patients are not aware they received care that wasn't covered by their insurance policy.

Surprise medical bills often happen following an emergency, such as a heart attack or serious car accident. However, they are not limited to emergency care. Surprise medical bills can also happen at an in-network hospital when some of the providers who care for a patient are not in the network or when an in-network provider refers a patient to get lab work, a diagnostic test, or other care that isn't in-network. Typical bills can range from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.

Please contact your representative today and urge them to pass House Bill 1862 without amendment!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVOCACY!
