2024 Karen Ponder Award Recipient Announced


Congratulations to Paula Yost for being the recipient of the Karen W. Ponder Leadership Award for 2024! Presented in May 2024 during the Smart Start Conference in Greensboro, the award was accepted on Paula's behalf by Ann Benfield, Executive Director of the Cabarrus County Partnership for Children. A local ceremony for Paula will take place later this year with special recognition from President of Smart Start, Amy Cubbage.

This free book-gifting program administered by the Cabarrus County Partnership for Children mails an age-appropriate book to each registered child on a monthly basis until they are 5 years old. Simply complete the sign-up form and the first book will arrive in the mail within 8 weeks, then on a monthly basis going forward!

Choking Hazards


In case you missed it, the Cabarrus Health Alliance shared that children under the age of 4 years old are at a higher risk of choking while eating.


Parents can help reduce the risk by preparing food in certain ways and avoiding foods that are potential choking hazards.
