SAD Gets SNSI Help
One of the frightened puppies cowers in a wood pile.
Last month, Save A Dog Rescue (SAD), came across a nightmare situation of dog abandonment and abuse in Silver Lake. SAD volunteers were working to trap a skittish momma dog, her pups and several other frightened and elusive dogs. The dogs had taken up residence in a countryside barn that is rotting and ready to collapse.

Char Swift with SAD came to SNSI concerned. "I'm afraid we won't be able to fund this. They just keep coming," she said of the many dogs that continued to wander onto the property.

Mama dog is finally captured after eluding volunteers for days.
"When we heard their story, we couldn't turn them away, even though we were out of spay/neuter certificates for the month", said Cheri Storms with SNSI. SNSI vowed to provide five surgery certificates to fix some of the dogs and to reach out to our supporters to secure more help. The more SNSI can raise, the more we can help with these dogs and other rescue groups with similar situations.

Won't you help us get more animals fixed and save more animal lives? Donate today so we can help more animals.
New Memes Promote Pet Friendly Plate
Most of SNSI's funding for spay/neuter surgery certificates comes from the sale of the Indiana Pet Friendly license plate. So, we are rolling out a new campaign to increase awareness. We still have postcards and other promotional materials that we can send you. Simply email us at info@GetThemFixed.org to request a kit.
We have also launched a new social media campaign that you can easily post to your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other outlets. When you see SNSI's meme-campaign posts, please repost them! Let's work together to promote the Pet Friendly plate and get more funding for spay/neuters.

SNSI has never experienced greater demand for our services, and we hate to turn down anyone needing spay/neuter assistance.
Elkhart County Puts the Community in Community Cats
Firefighters from BAUGO assist with community cats
Animal welfare groups refer to feral and free-roaming cats as "community cats," and one Indiana county is taking it literally. A community-wide effort is helping community cats in Elkhart County. The Elkhart County Feral Cat Coalition (ECFCC) teamed up with the local Habitat for Humanity Chapter, local

firefighters and school kids to build outdoor cat shelters. During one of the monthly builds, 73 volunteers built 150 shelters in a single day. The shelters are for sale, and the proceeds support the ECFCC's work to trap-neuter-return (TNR) cats.

partnerships can benefit cats and the community at large. SNSI is proud to support the efforts of this program and community cat programs across the state.
Thanks For Your Advocacy!
The Spay/Neuter Trust Fund, being considered under Senate Bill 282 this legislative session, was unsuccessful in making it into Indiana's final budget. However, we cannot thank our supporters enough for contacting your Legislators to advocate on behalf of a fund that would have provided much needed assistance to cover spay/neuter surgeries. We are certainly disappointed that no funds were included, but we look forward to working with Legislators to create a funding stream in 2019 (our next opportunity since Indiana works on a two-year budget cycle.)
Memorials and Honorariums:

In memory of Abigail (Abby) Rejer, a New Palestine High School student who excelled academically, played many instruments and loved music and reading. Abby had a big heart, volunteered at her local library, and loved animals of every kind. Donations were made in Abby's name by Loey Neuert and Phyllis Kindle.

In memory of Noah, 13-year-old companion to Deana Medsker and Chris Paulson, who didn't like to swim (even with a vest), from Julie Otto, who says "You'll be missed, you big lug!"
