Dear ones,
It is my great pleasure to be among you. Sunday was a bit of a marathon from what I am used to, but I’ll get up to speed quickly. The staff and clergy made Sunday go smoothly, without too many bumps in the road. Cheryl and I are looking forward to our time with you.
Your welcome to us has been most gracious. Over the coming weeks, I hope we will have opportunities to get to know each other. Please don’t hesitate to call, write, or ask for some time to talk. It will be through our time together that we will build relationships that are open, fearless, and honest. The work of uncovering the wounds of the past and doing the heavy lifting of reconciliation and healing will put Ascension in the best position to call its permanent rector.
In the meantime, let’s be joyful in our worship. Let’s invite others to join us. Let’s seek out those that have drifted away and encourage their return. The Church of the Ascension is a treasure, a light in this marvelous city. Let’s make sure it shines brightly.

Acolyte Training Opportunities
|
|
I'm grateful for the service of all who pitched in to help with Holy Week, and that includes our acolytes, both new and experienced -- you've gone above and beyond to fill much-needed slots and learn unfamiliar roles. Many of us are ready to learn more, so we'll be offering some upcoming Solemn High Mass acolyte training opportunities planned for 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 15, and Sunday, May 22.
On May 15, those who have served as Crucifer or Torchbearer are invited to try the Acolyte role, and on May 22, those who've experienced the Acolyte role may learn what it's like to be Thurifer. If you're planning to attend, please let me know. I'm also available for walk throughs or assistance by appointment if you have questions about something else, would like a refresher, can't make these times, or are simply curious about the ministry of the acolytes, so please feel free to get in touch with me (quidquid@gmail.com).

Calling All Photographers
|
|
"Hold it." Snap, click, click. "Got it, thanks." If you have a phone and like to take snapshots, Ascension needs you! Our weekly newsletter, our website, our Facebook page and our bulletin boards are always more lively and engaging when we include recent photos.
We want photos of everything Ascension. Think:
- Social occasions in Wheeler Hall
- Special gatherings for worship prayer, or education,
- A chat in the garden.
- Arranging Sunday flowers;
- Choir rehearsals in the loft;
- Cooking and enjoying a festive meal
Haul out your phone and capture a moment to remember! Maybe you can submit a few photos every week or every month. Let Nathanael in the church office know if you have photos to share. We’re creating a database of Ascension photos and would love to add yours to the mix. And bless you for helping!

As the search for Ascension’s new rector continues, the Search Committee is requesting your help. We want to know what qualities in a rector are most important to you, what your vision is for the future of Ascension, and what you are willing to contribute to Ascension’s continuing journey.
So, we will be sending you a survey in order to give you the opportunity to be a critical part of the search process. If you want your voice to be heard, fill out the survey. We the Search Committee think we know what you want, but until you express your thoughts in the survey, we won’t know for sure.
The opportunity to take the survey is planned to begin on May 22. Only those who are voting members at Church of the Ascension are eligible to take it. The survey is to be filled out online. You will receive a link to access it.
If you do not have the internet, you will receive a paper copy of the survey which you will return in the envelope provided.
Please be intentional about filling out the survey. The future of Ascension very much depends on you.
Blessings,
The Rector Search Committee
