AL Acquires Four New Buses

Dear AL Community,

Yesterday, we welcomed four new school buses, marking a big step in our commitment to provide safe and reliable transportation for our students.

This decision, approved by the board, addresses the challenges we faced with our contracted bus service, First Student, which could not fully cover the needs of our Cherry building due to a driver shortage.

All the four buses passed the state inspection today. Soon, we will be running five routes to serve both Armour and Cherry students effectively. To ensure smooth transportation, we hired an additional driver who will not only handle daily routes but also support field trips and school activities.

This move is all about making sure all our students, especially those facing transportation difficulties, have the support they need. We believe this will help reduce student absences and tardiness, giving every child a better chance to excel.

We are looking forward to a smoother transportation experience for our families!

Have a good weekend.

AL Insights

HealtheKids Program Information

HealtheKids screenings will be conducted at all campuses next week: 10/2-3 (Oak), 10/4 (Armour), and 10/5-6 (Cherry). Consents for this program were provided upon (re)enrollment for your child.

A brightly colored large envelope will be sent home with your child a day or two after the screenings are completed for your campus. In the event that your child did not pass a particular area, there will be a form for parents to fill out and return to the school regarding how that issue has been handled by your family or doctors office. Please return those as soon as possible when you have followed up on any abnormal findings.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your campus nurse.

ALIHS Student Council Bake Sale Fundraiser

Treats will be available for purchase during HS lunch on Friday, October 6. Proceeds go to Winter Formal dance. Accepting cash & Venmo.

Donations needed! Drop off baked goods and treats to sell at the front office between Wednesday, Oct 4 and Friday, October 6.

Middle school Girls BasketBall Tryouts

My name is Dimond Piggie and I coached AL Girls MS Basketball last year. I am excited about coaching this year again. We will have tryouts on 10/18, 10/19, 10/25 and 10/26 from 4 to 6 pm at the Cherry campus. Please click here to sign up.

AL in the Community

Académie Lafayette is proud to announce that Estella Roodman, a member of our first senior class, has been named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. This is the result of her hard work and dedication to her studies throughout her entire AL career. Congratulations, Stella! You are a point of great pride for our school community.

Missouri Close the Gap Grant

The Missouri Close the Gap grant is working to support families with basic educational expenses. Close the Gap Grant applications opened on September 20, 2023, and will close on October 25, 2023. This program provides a one-time grant of up to $1,500 for Missouri K-12 grade public school district and charter school students to use towards allowable educational expenses.

Grants will be prioritized for families with income below 185% of the federal poverty level and then open to all families if there are sufficient funds remaining. Click here for a link to the program.

Oak After-School Dance Club

Take the Stage is back, excited to offer free, quality dance instruction after school at Oak on Tuesdays from 3:50 to 4:45, beginning October 10. The club is open to students in grades 3-5.

Each week, Take the Stage instructors will provide an energetic and inclusive dance class, designed to challenge your student, and develop agility, teamwork, listening skills, self-image, and personal discipline. Take the Stage harnesses the power of the arts to motivate students to do their personal best and reach for the stars. We hope that you will enroll your AL student for Take the Stage!

Please email jeramy@owencoxdance.org to register. Class size is limited, so don’t delay! If you have any questions about the program, you can either contact Jeramy or AL parent support, Jennifer Laughlin at jlartgirl@gmail.com. Take the stage is an educational program of Owen/Cox Dance Group.

Meals
We need every family, regardless of eligibility status, to fill out the 23-24 free and reduced lunch application (select START MEAL APPLICATION after choosing your language, do not use log in or register). This is a critical step to get many grants and funding. If you have questions, you can call 816-743-4973 or email foodservice@academielafayette.org.
Need help? Come fill out your application in person at Meet the Teacher night. A food service employee will be there to help you at each campus.

All meals can be paid for by logging into your child's Tyler account, where you will also find a current balance.

Breakfast and lunch menus are published on our website once received from the catering company. You can find more information about meals on that page as well.
