Adorning Boston and Beyond: Contemporary Studio Jewelry Then + Now and Our Cups Runneth Over at Society of Arts + Crafts
in Boston, Massachusetts through February 17, 2019

Society of Arts + Carfts
Lynn Batchelder, Cover, steel, 2014.

The Society of Arts + Crafts is now showing two exhibitions, Adorning Boston and Beyond: Contemporary Studio Jewelry Then + Now and Our Cups Runneth Over which can be seen through February 17, 2019. Adorning Boston and Beyond: Contemporary Studio Jewelry Then + Now features work from over 30 contemporary artists who follow their artistic heirs' footsteps in creating one-of-a-kind contemporary jewelry. These well-known, groundbreaking mid-twentieth century artists such as Alexander Calder, Art Smith and Margaret DePatta originally established the Northeast as a center for innovation in studio jewelry. Today the contemporary artists carry on the creative spirit and experimental designs. The guest curator for the exhibit, professional jeweler Heather White, is a Massachusetts College of Art and Design Professor in the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Department. The exhibit Our Cups Runneth Over is the sixth iteration of a biennial exhibit that examines the notion of a cup as more than just a vessel for liquid. The exhibit explores the intimacy found in cups through vignettes and curatorial storytelling. Viewers are encouraged to ponder how we define a cup and how we define its everyday role. Upwards of 25 artists are featured in Our Cups Runneth Over, which has become a collecting and educational destination over the years. The guest curator, Mary Barringer, is a ceramic artist and former editor of Studio Potter magazine. The Society of Arts + Crafts is located at 100 Pier 4, Suite 200 in Boston, Massachusetts and is open Tuesday⎻Saturday 10:00 a.m.⎻6:00 p.m., Thursday 10:00 a.m.⎻9:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m.⎻5:00 p.m. For more information, please visit
