What are habits? Habits are formed when we do something in a routine manner. It could be brushing our teeth and washing our face morning and night. Or it might be that we put our car keys in the same place each night so we can find them easily when we need them again. We can also form good and routine habits with schoolwork, studying and even kindness.

At Aspen View Academy, along with educating your students, we teach them ways to form good habits. We teach them different ways to study so they can pick which ones work best for them and the way they learn. This allows them to develop good study habits which will set our students up to have strong lifelong learning abilities. Additionally, we strive to teach them good school work habits and to develop organizational skills. Great organizational skills help set the foundation which they can use when planning work projects in the future, meeting deadlines in their careers, or due dates for their school assignments. With good school work habits, our students have a great sense of accomplishment when they finish an assignment or do well on an assessment. Finally, we teach them the habit of being kind through our Capturing Kids Hearts program. We get to know your student(s) and they get to know classmates as we build a foundation of capturing their hearts to capture their minds. Building these relationships through acts of kindness supports us knowing each other better and understanding each other much more easily. This in turn creates a strong climate and culture here at AVA.

Teaching our students good habits supports them to develop into great thinkers and citizens. This sets them up for success both academically and in their daily lives. Additionally, learning to have good habits builds a strong foundation to be responsible adults. They can take the habits they build here and apply them to their learning experiences and their future careers. We hope these methods support your child to develop good habits to use for their schoolwork, studying, and showing kindness to others. Leading by example in demonstrating these habits allows them to see great examples everyday at AVA. Thank you for partnering with us in showing your child ways to form good habits for their future.

Intent to Return to Aspen View Academy

Please take a moment to complete the

Intent to Return form for every student currently enrolled at AVA. This helps us know how many new students we have openings for in the upcoming school year and reserves your spot (You do not need to do the DCSD Open Enrollment process if you are already enrolled in any K-7th grade at AVA).

This form must be filled out and submitted online by February 29th, 2024 to reserve your student's spot for the 2024 –25 school year. Please complete the form for every student returning to AVA next school year.

This form is specific to Aspen View Academy. If this form is not submitted by February 29th, 2024, AVA will assume you are not returning to AVA and your child's spot may be given to the next person on the lottery list.

PLEASE NOTE: OPEN ENROLLMENT AT ANOTHER SCHOOL OVERRIDES THIS INTENT TO RETURN.

There is NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 16 or Monday Feb. 19th.

Introducing our fabulous Book Vending Machines! Thanks to our rockstar PTO, we now have not one, but TWO of these book-tastic wonders.

So, what's the scoop? Students who exemplify the monthly character traits may be rewarded with a special token by a staff member. The token allows the student to select a book from either of our two vending machines!

Let the reading adventures begin!

Thank you PTO, thank you Board! Our students are lucky to have these amazing machines!

Please see the letter about state required immunization rates for our school. If you have any questions, please reach out to our school nurse, Jacenta Wirth.

Staff Spotlight

These ladies are a treasure to our school, as Long Term Substitutes and Flex Paraprofessional's. Things pop up, staff member's get sick, have appointments, undergo life changes or have babies. For the sake of our students, for consistency and a feeling of security, we count on these ladies to fill in the gaps. We're so thankful for their flexibility and work ethic, to fill in where they're needed most.

Krisha Sielaff (Long-term Sub - 4th Grade) enjoys building relationships and having everyday interactions with students the most, so that she can help them to navigate life and be the best version of themselves. Mrs. Sielaff is outgoing, passionate and warmhearted. When she's not here at school, she enjoys singing, being a worship leader and voice coach. She also loves spending time with her family, cheering on her daughters, planning parties, playing kickball and watching travel shows!

Heather Cabay (Long-term Sub - Kindergarten) enjoys kayaking and hiking with family and friends. Mrs. Cabay thrives on building relationships with your kids and helping them on their learning journey. She is fun-loving, carefree and dedicated.

Lisa Ellis (Clerical Para) is hardworking, dependable and flexible. Mrs. Ellis enjoys reading, watching movies, crocheting and spending time with her family. She loves being a small part of their world by greeting them in the mornings, in the hallway, and helping them in small groups.

Ashleigh Tilkens (Flex Para) enjoys figuring out how each student learns and getting them to push past what they think they are capable of. Mrs. Tilkens is compassionate, patient and funny. Outside of school she loves spending time with her family, cheering her son on in sports, being outdoors and hiking.

Lucia Grisez (Recess Para) is sweet, caring and diligent. Mrs. Grisez loves to see all the great things our students are capable of doing, and that she can be a positive influence in their lives. In her free time she enjoys writing and hiking.
