ITIF Releases Report on Canada's Effort to Reform Its Scientific Research and Experimental Development Tax Incentives to Spur Growth

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) has issued a report ("Comments to Canada’s Department of Finance Regarding Scientific Research and Experimental Development Tax Incentives") that asserts Canadian policymakers should view Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentives "as a way to incentivize private companies to increase their R&D expenditures."

McMaster Innovation Park's Jonathan Hunt (an AURP 2023 Rising Star Award recipient; photo left) supports the ITIF policy report, urging the Canadian government to reform its SR&ED Tax Initiatives. "As we discussed at the 2024 Spring Training, our national government in Canada, like our colleagues to the south, is looking at ways to improve its international competitiveness. Making sure our federal tax incentives for research and development spending by the private sector are aligned correctly is one way Canada can help build more communities of innovation across the country," said Jonathan.
