From The Pastor
On August 17th, it will have been seven years since our family moved up here and I cannot express how much I thank God for giving us the wisdom and courage to make this decision. I like to view congregations as families, and like any family, we have seen our share of ups and downs. Through it all however, God has been right here with us, giving us strength, humility, and compassion. I cannot imagine what life would have been like if we would not have accepted this call to Oskaloosa.
All of this said, I am so grateful that our church offers a sabbatical to our pastors. Our letter of calling (contract, for lack of a better word) explains that we can either take 1 month after 5 years, or 2 months after 7 years. I have decided to take 2 months after 7 years (September 9th through November 4th) as my sabbatical. In short, a sabbatical is a rest or break from work. I wish everyone in every occupation were able to do something as significant as this. Please know that I am beyond grateful for this opportunity. During this time, I will visit family in Texas, play golf with my dad and our friends, coach three (3?!?!) soccer teams, and will probably squeeze in some time to serve at the numerous homeless shelters in Des Moines.
I cannot thank you enough for this upcoming opportunity. I cannot tell you how much our family has fallen in love with FCC Oskaloosa and this entire town. And, I cannot wait to return to you rejuvenated and ready to proclaim the Good News of Jesus! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
You are being left in great hands with Molly at the helm, as well as other great leaders in our congregation. I will be praying for their leadership and that they share the Good News of Jesus with you, and alongside you, every day while I am absent. Now Go, be the church you’ve been called to be!
Serving Christ with You,
Pastor Robert
