ASPS announced Monday the launch of a new patient safety public education campaign during Plastic Surgery THE Meeting titled "Do Your Homework". The campaign, includes a press release, video news release, television, web, and radio public service announcements and a Facebook landing page dedicated to this topic. | | Anyone can wear a white coat, but not everyone is board certified in plastic surgery. |
The news release features a patient who required revision surgery by an ASPS Member Surgeon to correct a botched breast augmentation procedure performed by a non-plastic surgeon. The ASPS warns that physicians without specialized training may market themselves as cosmetic surgeons, and any physician can wear a white coat, but not all physicians are board-certified in plastic surgery. This campaign comes on the heels of USA Today's recent investigation and subsequent editorial on this very topic. We wanted to alert you to the potential increase in media activity surrounding this campaign, and encourage you to speak with your local media about this topic. We are reminding the public to "do your homework" and look for the symbol of excellence in plastic surgery: The ASPS logo. You can find more talking points on the patient safety section of the ASPS website.
Please share with your social network. Together we can make sure that when patients do their homework, they will find a board certified plastic surgeon who will put their safety first.
