President's Message
Dear ASCLD Colleagues,

Believe it or not, we have begun the planning of our 2021 ASCLD Symposium here in my hometown of Boston. Several board members met with our meeting planner, Bibbero Meeting and Events, for a virtual planning meeting last week.

Speaking of virtual, I hope that you all were able to take part in the ASCLD Emerging Issues: Employee Wellness webinar series which was supported by the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence at RTI International. If you missed it, you can still watch them. Take a look at the website: https://forensiccoe.org/

The ASCLD Leadership Academy typically finishes up the program with an in-person meeting at the ASCLD Symposium. With the current health crisis and cancellation of the symposium, instructors and students adapted and were able to complete both programs virtually on May 28 th . Thank you to our instructors and congratulations to the 55 graduates of the Level 1 program and 34 graduates of the Level 2 program! Many will be taking the exam to become a Certified Forensic Manager through the National Forensic Science Academy next month.

Lastly, I wanted to share with you some important information from the CFSO about the CEBR Grant. The CEBR solicitation is open for 45 days. Applications are due in GMS on 11:59 PM EDT on August 7, 2020. The direct link to the solicitation is: https://bja.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh186/files/media/document/bja-2020-18413.pdf . The “Estimated Aggregate Amounts Available for Each State (Primary Amount)” can be found in Chart 1 of Appendix A in the solicitation. The secondary allocation will be available for distribution among States that have demonstrated that the applicant’s State has enacted “test all” Sexual Assault Kit (SAK) legislation that is in effect before or as of January 1, 2020.   Express requests to receive additional funding under this second allotment are due to Forensic.DNACapacity@ojp.usdoj.gov before 11:59 PM EDT on July 23, 2020.

Be well,

Erin

ASCLD Forensic Research Committee
The ASCLD Forensic Research Committee is proud to announce the launch of the Validation and Evaluation Repository. The goal of this activity is share information about important Validations and Evaluations with the forensic science community by compiling a list of unique validations and evaluations conducted by forensic labs and universities. The repository will catalog these efforts and provide the contact information of the people responsible for the work. It is ASCLD’s hope that this listing will foster information sharing, promote communication, and minimize unnecessary or redundant repetition of Validations and Evaluations. For more information about this repository or if you would like to add your Validations or Evaluations to this repository please check out https://www.ascld.org/validation-evaluation-repository/

Briggs White recipient for 2020 Kermit Channell is interviewed by ASCLD member and previous Briggs White recipient John Collins in the link below. Please find time to listen to Kermit and his thoughts and insights to leadership and the forensic community. Kermit is the Executive Director of the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.
