President's Message Dear ASCLD Colleagues, Our symposium registration numbers continue to rise! We are looking forward to seeing everyone in person in two months’ time. One of the best parts of ASCLD is the community that we build by gathering together at our symposium.  We are excited to celebrate our colleagues in a new format for our awards ceremony. We will gather together for an evening awards ceremony which will transition into the Presidents’ Reception. While enjoying heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages and laughing along with our comedian master of ceremonies, we will recognize our Maximus Award, Member of the Year, and Briggs White Award winners. It is sure to be a fun evening. We know that some of our attendees are having trouble making hotel reservations online because reservations at the hotel are filling up quickly. The ASCLD Forensic Research Committee is proud to announce the next episode of a virtual “Lightning Talks” series to highlight new and emerging research in all areas of forensic science. Each episode will feature three short talks given by practitioners, researchers, and/or students. The ninth episode will be held on Thursday July 15th at 1:00 EST and will focus on Fentanyl Signature Research. It will feature talks by Mirjam de Bruin-Hogée from the University of Amsterdam on fentanyl attribution using biomedical samples, Dr. Lauryn DeGreeff from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory on vaporous targets for detection of fentanyl and related opioids, and Dr. J. Tyler Davidson from Sam Houston State University on the influence of chemical modifications on fentanyl analog fragmentation. The live event is limited to 100 people. ANAB Trainings With the ability to reach wider audiences, we are expanding offerings of current courses in Spanish.  The following courses will be available live online in Spanish:  Forensic Technical Assessor  Forensic ISO/IEC 17025 Internal Auditor  Risk-based Thinking for Forensic Service Providers   We are also excited to introduce our courses:oratories and Inspection: Basic Statistics for Laboratories and Inspection Bodies. This course will introduce basic statistical techniques for collecting, organizing, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data. Participants will strengthen their knowledge base of statistical techniques and their application to ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025, and build confidence in the validity and reliability of their results. More..
