May is the last newsletter until October 1, 2016 and a new administration will be in charge. Going through the various positions of the Board of Directors has been a great experience and that was due entirely to the wonderful and dedicated team that serves our Section!

Our April program  was another great success. The Galaxy Restaurant in Wadsworth was an excellent meeting location with great food and a very accommodating staff. At our April meeting, we hosted the local ASHE group and a few members from the local Ohio Contractors Association chapter. Representative James Renacci of the 16th District of Ohio was our featured speaker. Congressman Renacci spoke of funding for Highways and Infrastructure and his desire for a long term funding mechanism. He spoke of Washington DC in general and some comments regarding the current Presidential Primary process.

Ruth Klee of GPD Group was unanimously voted in to join the Board of Directors and become the next Treasurer.

As we have reported many times in the past, once again our Student Chapter has made headlines. In April, they were notified that they had been awarded "2016 ASCE Distinguished Chapter Award for Region 3". The students were also one of five finalists for the Robert Ridgway Award. Please read their letter of award later in this newsletter.

May's meeting will be our "Spouse and Friends Evening and was put together by Ken Kostura. The evening looks to be great and you will need to make a reservation early!

We continue to solicit for Newsletter Sponsors and Meeting Sponsorships. It is never too late. As has been our history, the newsletter sponsor donations go directly to our scholarship fund. Newsletter sponsors are recognized in each newsletter. Meeting sponsorships were new last year and are a mechanism to help keep our increasing meeting costs affordable. We will thank our meeting sponsors at each meeting and in the newsletter.

Please watch your inboxes for our monthly newsletters and periodic announcements. If you have an interest in getting involved on the leadership team, please do not hesitate to contact any of the members of the Board.

Regards,

Mark Miller
Akron-Canton Section President

We Need Your Help!!
Past Presidents Picnic Survey

Attendance at our Annual ASCE Golf Outing and Past Presidents Picnic has been low over the past several years.  In an effort to make the event better and increase attendance, we have prepared a brief survey for members to provide us with valuable input.

You can access the survey by clicking here.  There are only a few questions and this should take approximately 5 minutes to complete.  Thank you in advance for helping to make the Past Presidents Picnic and Annual Golf Outing a better event!

 Akron-Canton Section Sponsorship Opportunities

Our section is offering two sponsorship opportunities in 2016 for those companies interested in supporting the operations of the ASCE Akron-Canton Section.  We have two donation levels available for you to choose:

  • Newsletter Sponsorship - $100 donation - The Section will display your company's name with a hyperlink to the company's website in each monthly newsletter, for 12 months from donation receipt. Additionally, the Section will display your logo with a hyperlink your website on the Section's website here. Your donation would go directly to our Scholarship Fund.
  • Newsletter & Business Meeting Sponsorship - $250 donation - This donation level consists of $100 donation for the Scholarship Fund and $150 for supporting our professional meetings. In addition to your company's name in our newsletter and on our website, your logo would be displayed on a PowerPoint slide at our monthly meetings, with a verbal mention as we begin the program. This would occur at a minimum of four meetings through the year. Your donation would help reduce the meeting cost to our members.
