Share your direct experience about RAC audits with the state

Are you having problems with RAC auditors? Are you facing audits that use flawed coding logic? CMS recently learned that the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) restarted a disputed audit that involves coding for initial patient visits, an issue we have been discussing with HCPF since last year. Please contact Chet Seward, CMS chief strategy officer, if you are being affected by this flawed coding logic and continue to utilize available appeals mechanisms.

Additionally, to call attention to this and other challenges in RAC audits, CMS asks all physicians to share your experiences through a new being conducted by an outside company as required by HB23-1295 -- a bill CMS supported. The survey will evaluate the RAC Program’s adherence to its stated program rules, state law, and federal regulations and requirements, and possible process modifications and improvements. Access the survey here. It will take 15-20 minutes to complete.

Scholarship available for CO APCD data licensing

Are you a non-profit organization, governmental entity, or researcher in need of health care claims data? CIVHC (the Center for Improving Value in Health Care) has made scholarship funding available to help you access data from the Colorado All Claims Payer Database (CO ACPD) to analyze health care costs, utilization, quality and more.

Data sets and reports that inform and support one or more aspects of the Triple Aim for Coloradans (improving health, improving care and lowering costs) are eligible. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluating benefit design and opportunities to reduce price variation
  • Analyzing outcomes and cost benefit/return on investment of programs such as palliative care and community-based care transitions work that improve population health and patient experience
  • Developing alternative payment models such as bundled payments or population-based per member/month payments for Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) or medical home models

We encourage members of all walks of life, perspectives, backgrounds, practice settings, career stages and geographic locations to consider a leadership position now or in the future.
