Member spotlight: Rural champion illustrates CMS past and present
CMS continues our monthly member spotlight series with a Q&A with Jack Berry, MD, and his wife of nearly 60 years, Maribeth. Dr. Berry practiced rural medicine for many years and was a champion of access to care for rural communities.
What is Dr. Berry's favorite part of rural medicine?
"The people. I would care for four generations. Truly from the cradle to the grave. You can have a lot of influence as a rural doctor in a rural community. We hosted many medical students and residents right in our home to show them how rural life can be (really great).

CMS decodes SB23-144: More flexibility in treating chronic pain
A law passed by the Colorado General Assembly in 2023 makes Colorado one of the first states legally to reverse the harms resulting from previous, well-intentioned policies aimed at mitigating the risks of addiction or overdose. SB23-144 works to restore individualized care and provider discretion in treating patients with chronic pain. View this fact sheet for more information on the scope of the bills and its intended outcomes.
