Thérèse
A MOVIE ON FORMED.ORG
Set aside time to watch the incredible story of this
saint and doctor of the church!
Once a 19th century, pampered, French child from a middle-class family,
Therese Martin makes the difficult journey to Rome
to beg Pope Leo XIII's permission to enter a Carmelite monastery
at the unheard-of age of 15.
Once admitted, she experiences the joys and rigors of monastic life,
and makes the surprising yet simple discovery
that holiness can be achieved by small acts of love
and compassion – a spiritual path she calls her “Little Way.”
With a soundtrack composed by a cloistered Carmelite nun,
this film is a beautiful retreat into the world of
Saint Therese of Lisieux,
an ordinary girl with an extraordinary soul.
Starring: Lindsay Younce and Leonardo Defilippis.

"Seeing the World as a Catholic"
Msgr. James Shea
Here in the United States, we Catholics are
experiencing massive societal change,
a shift from one age of history to another.
Those of us over 40 remember
when Christian values were the basis
for much of our culture.
Now it's more common to feel that Christian values are under attack.
And even by those who claim to be Christian.
What happened?!
There are many causes.
In the University of Mary’s book, From Christendom to Apostolic Mission,
Fr. Shea and others trace many of the ways our culture’s
overall vision became at odds with our Catholic values.
Because of this,
for Catholics to effectively live our faith in public,
we must adapt and return to an approach that
allowed Christians to thrive
over the past two thousand years
when Catholics were in the minority or even persecuted for our faith.
One very important element of this Apostolic mode of
living our faith in public is that
we adopt a powerfully Catholic vision
of the world and human life.

Why Christians need to talk religion and politics!
1st Conversation Rule: There are two things you don't
talk about in public...
and the devastating consequences of our silence are real.
Learn how this happened and
Why we need a new approach
To break down the walls
but using levity, charity, and civility.

GOSPEL READING REFLECTION
FOR October 10
Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B
********************************************************************************************************
TRUE WEALTH AND HOW TO ATTAIN IT
"“Amen, I say to you,
there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or lands
for my sake and for the sake of the gospel
who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age..."
- God alone is good. Or, as wise philosophers would say, God is goodness Himself. And All things are possible for God. That is, He is omnipotent.
- The rich man ran up to Jesus in excitement but went away sad. Because he was rich, he was used to people going out of their way to be agreeable to him and to agree with him.
- The apostles were amazed and exceedingly astonished that rich people, who had it made here on earth, did not also have it made in heaven.
- Maybe the rich man shared this attitude as well. Perhaps he was expecting double congratulations from Our Lord: first for being rich and second for being faithful to the commandments.
- Jesus loved the rich man. Not because he was rich. Not even because he kept all the commandments from his youth. (And we have to ask, did he really keep all these commands from his youth? Our Lord had just said, “No one is good but God alone.” When Our Lord said, “You are lacking one thing,” was he being a little ironic?) Jesus loved him because He is God who is good. That is why He loves us, too: because he is good.
- All things are possible for God. It is impossible for a man to save himself by what he does on his own. But it is possible for God to save a man. And God invites the man’s cooperation. Thus, Our Lord’s invitation to the rich man.
- With God’s grace and our own freedom, we can be generous, as the rich man, sadly, was not, but which the disciples, happily, were.
- This is why we offer back to God every morning (and renew that offer throughout the day) everything we have been given.

ANSWER TO QUIZ
Throughout history, God has raised up extraordinary teachers—doctors—to guide and enlighten His Church.
Did you know... Four of these Doctors of the Church are women?
The word doctor comes from the Latin docere, “to teach.”
It commonly denotes the holder of a Ph.D.,
the highest level of education in a subject.
Similarly, a Doctor of the Church is someone whom
God chose to be a learned teacher
of His people—someone who has played
a major role in the development of Catholic theology.
Four Doctors of the Church are Women:
St. Teresa of Ávila
St. Catherine of Siena
St. Thérèse of Lisieux,
St. Hildegard von Bingen
Their inclusion as Doctors of the Church
and the value the Church places on their teachings
illustrates the esteem
the Church holds for her female saints and thinkers.

A PRAYER TO GOD
Pour forth we beseech You, O Lord,
Your grace into our hearts, that we,
to whom the Incarnation of Christ Your Son
was made known by the message of an Angel,
may, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
by His Passion and Cross
be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.
Who lives and reigns with You
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
