Ahead of the Trend:

Check out the latest Ahead of the Trend columns by Dr. Ryan Burge and keep an eye out for the new Ahead of the Trend newsletter:

Is It Better If Women Take Care of the Home and Family?

The General Social Survey has a question that is at least adjacent to the topic of gender roles and gender differences that's been asked pretty consistently since 1977. Using this data, we can track how the public has viewed gender roles over time.

Are Women More Spiritual and Men More Religious?

There’s a stereotype that spiritual, not religious is a highly female-coded worldview, while atheism is more male-coded. Utilizing data from the Fetzer Institute’s National Religion and Spirituality Survey, we can discern how large the gender gap is in areas like beliefs and spiritual practices.

Social Media Conversations:

We continue the conversation about religious data on social media by highlighting important events in history, new research, and opportunities that may interest our readers. Join the conversation by following us on Twitter, Facebook, and our new LinkedIn and Threads.

In July, we featured some of our most recent learning modules, including: Social Media in Religious Lives, The First Amendment and American Religious Freedom, Evangelicals in the United States, and Religious Practices and Beliefs of Young Adults in the United States.

This Months Historical Events:

In September, there are many anniversaries of significant events in religious history. These include Antoinette Brown becoming the first woman to be ordained by a Mainline Protestant church (1853), the founding of the National Baptist Convention (1895), the Birmingham church bombing (1963), and the opening of the Islamic Center of America (1963).

In addition to reading about these single events, you can delve into substantially more religious history by viewing any of our nine interactive timelines. These include specific timelines dedicated to religious groups, women, race/ethnicity, and more.
