Save the Date: Spring Districtwide Convocation

This Spring’s Convocation, on Friday, January 12, 2024, will be a Districtwide Convocation at American River College - our first in-person districtwide convening in 6 years! Faculty, classified, and administrative leaders from American River College, our sister colleges, and the district office are working on an exciting program centered around our equity work, featuring a keynote from Sacramento State President Dr. Luke Wood and a panel discussion with Ethnic Studies faculty from the four Los Rios colleges.

This will be an in-person Convocation, with a live streaming option available for those faculty and classified staff whose job duties prevent them from being there.

An invitation (with a link to RSVP and provide lunch choice) will follow later this month. We will be asking that everyone attending RSVP so that we have accurate head counts for seating and catering.

Following the Convocation program, there will be opportunities to hold individual college (or cross-college) department or division meetings, based on the individual department’s needs and schedules. More details will follow in the weeks ahead.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

8:30 - 9:00 am - Arrival and continental breakfast

9:00 am - 12:00 pm - Convocation program (including welcomes from constituent leaders, keynote speech from Dr. Luke Wood, and Ethnic Studies faculty panel discussion)

The recognition, which is awarded the entire staff, is one of four General Excellence awards in a competition that includes more than 30 regional community colleges.

The staff also received several mail-in and on-the-spot honorable mention awards including an honorable mention in On-the-Spot newswriting to Heather Amberson, the Current's editor-in-chief.

New Arts HomeBase Sign

A peer mentor in the Arts HomeBase, David Martinez, created an AMAZING sign to hang above the Arts HomeBase door which showcases some of the various departments in the Fine and Applied Arts division at American River College. The Arts HomeBase would also like to give a huge shout out to Bill Pridemore for hanging the sign in such a short amount of time!

Please come see the sign and visit us in The Arts HomeBase (Arts and Science room 102)

It is with great sadness we share that former ARC Campus Operations Supervisor Matthew Blevis passed away last week. Matthew worked at American River College for more than eight years before taking a new role outside of the Los Rios community this past spring. He was a caring and much-beloved colleague and member of the Operations Team. We are keeping Matthew’s family, friends, and colleagues in our thoughts during this difficult time.
