- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Call 988
- Crisis Text Line: Text Courage to 74174
- County Crisis Hotline: (916) 732-3637

College Resources
Everyone deserves care and support, at American River College we have many different resources available including:
There’s an App for That
Mental health apps are designed to help users improve their emotional well-being, become more mindful, and address common mental health issues. Although the following tools can all help improve your mental health and reduce stress and anxiety, please note that none of them are intended to be used as an alternative to a therapist or other mental health professionals.
Consider downloading the following (note: free versions are available but some may require additional purchases for premium content):
-
Happify: Happify uses games to boost your mood. The activities were developed with positive psychology techniques and CBT interventions.
-
Insight Timer: Insight Timer offers guided meditations, music tracks and discussion groups/community.
-
Mindshift: Was created to help develop skills to manage anxiety. Features include short meditations, thought journals, coping cards, and activities to face fears, change beliefs, and develop healthy habits.
-
Worry Watch: Worry Watch offers guided anxiety journaling and coping techniques. The app also offers a mood tracker and positive reinforcements.
-
I am Sober: I Am Sober is useful for quitting alcohol. It encourages you to identify triggers, recognize patterns, and develop healthy habits to meet your goals and achieve sobriety. It offers a withdrawal timeline so you can learn what to expect.
-
iBreathe: Introduces breathing exercises to help reduce stress.

May 9 is National Fentanyl Awareness Day
Fentanyl is involved in more deaths of Americans under 50 than any cause of death, including heart disease, cancer, homicide, suicide and other accidents. Illicit fentanyl is driving the recent increase in US drug overdose deaths. It is odorless, tasteless, extremely potent, and used to make fake pills disguised as Oxycontin, Percocet and Xanax. You can’t tell which pills contain a lethal amount of fentanyl.
Learn more at fentanylawarenessday.org and spread the word to save a life.

Call Out for Interviews with LGBTQ2IAA+ Community College Students! | |
Professor Sara Smith at American River College is seeking queer and trans community college students to interview for her oral history project. She is conducting the interviews in the spring, summer and fall of 2023. They are being recorded at Sacramento City College, though there is some flexibility about location, depending on student needs. If interested in being interviewed or if you have questions, email her at sara.smith@arc.losrios.edu.
The interviews are part of a larger project intended to help California’s community colleges better attend to the needs of queer and trans students, particularly students from more marginalized backgrounds – students of color, poor and working-class students, trans and non-binary students, and disabled queer and trans students.
| Model United Nations Club Wins Awards | |
ARC’s Model United Nations (MUN) club attended the 72nd session of the Model United Nations of the Far West Conference, the 2nd oldest MUN Conference in the US, where they competed against 4-year Universities and other Community Colleges.
This year, 13 students were on the country teams of Lithuania and New Zealand where they debated specific issues of United Nations committees and tried to get resolutions passed on important issues. The theme this year was A Foree For Good: Global Health and Technology for a Sustainable Future.
The New Zealand delegation won an Award and Practice of Diplomacy and the delegates in the 3rd Committee, Spencer Owen (Luthiana) and Juliana Elliot-Beckett (New Zeland), won Outstanding Resolution for their work in Committee.
Congratulations Beavers!

Congratulations to the seven lucky campus community members who completed the survey and were selected as winners of the participation incentive prizes. The winners have all been selected and notified.
