Spring Flex and Convocation

Spring 2023 Flex Week has a great line-up of events. Click the button below to see the full schedule.

ARC's Spring 2023 Convocation will be Friday, January 13, in the main campus Student Center Cafeteria. The theme of Convocation is Centering Social Justice Through Our Stories, and the program will feature a panel of faculty and students in conversation. Continental breakfast will be offered from 7:45 to 8:30 am, followed by the program from 8:30 to 11:30 am. Buffet lunch will be provided after the program. A YouTube livestream option will be available for those who do not attend in person. A video recording of Convocation will be archived and available after the event.

Helpful Reminders

Here are some helpful reminders for the college community:

Emergency Resources: Download the Rave Guardian App to have safety resources and information at your fingertips, including what to do in case of an emergency.

Parking: Los Rios will not be issuing parking permits for students for the Spring 2023 semester. An employee permit is required to park in any staff parking spaces. Please be sure to follow all parking rules such as only parking in handicapped spots if you have the appropriately issued placard and no parking in fire or loading zones, as violations of these could result in a ticket.

Smoking: ARC is a tobacco-free, smoke-free, and vape-free campus.

Free Speech: Please be aware that outside groups occasionally visit campus exercising their constitutionally protected right to free speech. These groups might display images or engage in speech that is offensive to some. Learn more about free speech on campus.

Key Student Deadlines

Here are some key student deadlines for spring full-term classes.

• January 27 - Last day to drop classes and qualify for a tuition refund
• January 29 - Last day to enroll in classes; also last day to drop classes without notation on record

Scholarship Season is Coming

Did you know that thanks to our generous donors, the Los Rios Colleges Foundation awards nearly $500,000 in scholarships to students each year?

The application period for students to apply will be Friday, January 13 through Friday, March 3. Please encourage students to apply!

First 2023 Exhibition at Kaneko Gallery

The first show of Spring 2023 at the Kaneko Gallery will feature clay sculptures by Kris Marubayashi and new acrylic paintings on silk by Shirley Hazlett. The show will open on January 17 and run through February 10. A reception for the artists will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 26. All are invited to attend!

GIS Alum Presents at Conference

Congratulations to ARC alum Joanna Nishimura, who had the opportunity to present during the plenary session at the Esri Pacific User Conference held in Sacramento in November 2022. Joanna is currently a Solution Engineer with Esri, a company that provides geographic information system (GIS) software, location intelligence, and mapping services. At the conference, Joanna presented a demo of a recently released website called Climate Mapping for Resilience and Adaptation, which consists of a series of map-based applications designed by federal government agencies to support the creation of climate resilience plans to protect people, property, and infrastructure. Joanna graduated with an AS in GIS from ARC in 2015.

In Memoriam

We are saddened to share that retired ARC Counselor John McGregor recently passed away. John served as a Counselor with ARC from 1972 to 2002. Please see his obituary for more information.
