Tech Tips for Employees and Students

A wide variety of technical resources are available. Check out the Employee Technical Support webpage and direct students to the Student Technology Resources webpage. Some helpful tools and services include: Service Central: Employees and students can request IT services or get support for any IT issue through the online Service Central portal. This includes submitting a request for computer support, software (ex. Microsoft Word), hardware (ex. Chromebook), or access to tools and systems (ex. Canvas). In this centralized online system, you’ll be able to track your requests online and ultimately receive faster responses from the IT team. Learn more about Service Central.

Canvas: Online and in-person classes both use the Canvas online learning management system. For students new to Canvas, encourage them to check out these short Los Rios Canvas "how to" videos on the most requested features or visit the Canvas Student Guide

Apps and Software for Students: Check out the Technology Resources webpage for instructions on how to download software like Microsoft and Adobe, plus find information about low-cost or free internet and wi-fi.

Career Development Roadshow

Unites District Campuses!

In a powerful collaboration to enhance career development opportunities for our students, the Work Experience and Internship Team joined forces with Career Center teams across every campus in the Los Rios Community College District to organize a successful "Roadshow". Throughout these events, staff and faculty members engaged in a rich exchange of insights, sharing best practices, connecting with both new and familiar faces among faculty, and gaining a firsthand look at the innovative makerspaces present on each campus.

This initiative not only fostered a sense of unity among the participating centers, but also paved the way for future collaborations aimed at providing enhanced career services to students across the district. Thank you to all who participated!

Important: Many ARC Library Links are Changing

The ARC Library is changing the way it provides off-campus access to many library resources. We’ve done a lot of updating behind the scenes already, but you will need to take action if you’re sharing links to certain types of librarymaterial in Canvas, your syllabus, or other course materials. Note: Changes to library links are only needed if they have ezproxy.losrios.edu in the URL.

We will have a temporary redirect, but your links will need to be updated to ensure students continue to have access. If you are adjunct faculty teaching at multiple Los Rios colleges, It’s also important that you’re updating your links with the college-specific information (see an example below).

We have created an easy tool to help you convert links and we’ve also created an FAQ that you can bookmark now so you don’t have to come searching for this message later. We urge you to take action as soon as possible so that your students experience a seamless transition.

Links to Help You Make Updates

Example:

You teach public speaking at ARC and CRC and are sharing a link to an ebook from the EBSCO Ebook Collection database. You will convert your link twice, once for your ARC class and once for your CRC class.
