If you are an employee donor or would like to become one, come grab a Gunther’s ice cream cone and say hello to our new college president, Lisa Cardoza, on Wednesday, August 30 from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm (or until the ice cream is gone) in the ARC Operations Courtyard.

Encourage Students to

Take 1 More Class!

Studies show that students enrolled in 6-9 units who take just one more course are more likely to stick to college, save money and meet their academic goals sooner (2-3 vs. 5 years).

Taking an additional class will get students closer to graduation, transfer, and the job they want! Check the Fall class schedule for a full list of available classes.

RAD

This Fall, Reading Across the Disciplines (RAD) is offering both fully online and fully in-person sections. Please consider including information for students about how to sign up for RAD on your Canvas site or in an email. Campus research has done several studies that show that students who complete RAD have a higher success rate in all their classes!

Sample Canvas/email language to send to students:

Students in this class might consider registering for the Reading Across the Disciplines (RAD) which has both in-person and online classes. RAD offers support for reading and study skills. The RAD classes provide one-on-one or small group sessions with either a Reading Instructor or Instructional Assistant who will help you keep up with the demands of college reading and studying. RAD has a proven track record of helping students succeed in all of their classes.

For more information, here is a video about RAD.

It’s easy to sign up for RAD via eServices. If you have not taken RAD before, you will sign up for ENGRD 315. If you have taken RAD before, you will sign up for ENGRD 316. If you want to know the best course code for this class, contact RAD directly at:

See Something, Say Something Reminder

The Los Rios Colleges are public, open campuses and anyone is free to come onto our college properties, and many people do, even if they are not students or employees. And some will occasionally do things that may raise a red flag in your mind.

You hear it all the time – "If You See Something, Say Something." This slogan is a national campaign that raises public awareness of the importance of reporting suspicious activity to state and local law enforcement. But it is more than a slogan; it's how we protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities.

You play a key role by recognizing and reporting suspicious activity. Suspicious activity can refer to any incident, event, individual, or activity that seems unusual or out of place. Some common examples of suspicious activities include a person on campus that looks to be doing something inappropriate, a vehicle cruising the parking lots repeatedly, someone peering into cars or windows, or shouting inappropriately.

We are asking for your help to speak up if you see anything suspicious or unusual. Contact the Los Rios Police Department at (916) 558-2221 and press "0" to speak to Dispatch. We also encourage you to go to the Los Rios Police Department website for safety resources and other information, including what to do in case of an emergency.
