JERRY DAVIDSON

Jerry Davidson, a self-taught artist whose career spanned from World War II pilot to beloved painter, crafted a legacy defined by a blend of whimsy and reality. Eschewing the seriousness often associated with art, Jerry sought to infuse his works with elements of fun and mystery, aiming to engage viewers in thoughtful appraisal. His artistic journey was influenced by his family—his father, a lawyer with a weekend passion for painting, and his brother, a commercial artist—encouraging his own exploration into drawing and painting.

Jerry's life was rich with diverse interests, from music to photography, each enriching his art. His works, known for their realism but avoiding the rigidity of photorealism, explored various subjects with a focus on human anatomy and landscapes, reflecting his life experiences and travels. Even as his art evolved, his philosophy remained constant: art should be enjoyable, both in creation and observation. His legacy, as captured by Brett Anningson in ARABELLA's "A Life Enjoyed is a Life Well Lived," is a testament to living passionately and embracing creativity at every turn.

MORGAN WEISTLING

Renowned for his evocative oil paintings, Morgan Weistling stands as a pivotal figure in contemporary art, masterfully blending historical accuracy with a profound narrative quality. Transitioning from a successful Hollywood illustrator to a celebrated fine artist in 1998, Weistling’s works are distinguished by their atmospheric use of light and shadow, often depicting the pioneer spirit with rustic charm. Drawing inspiration from the beauty of creation and influenced by artists like John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla, his paintings are not just visual experiences but stories imbued with emotion and humanity.

Lorie Lee Steiner's article, "Beauty in the Light," in ARABELLA delves into Weistling's journey, highlighting his approach to storytelling through art, where each canvas becomes a narrative captured in light. His works, celebrated in museum shows and private collections alike, reflect a dedication to capturing moments of life and history with a unique blend of beauty, humor, and light, embodying his belief in art as a shared, communicative gift.
