NEW SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPEP)

We are excited to announce the formation of a new Special Interest Group (SIG) within the Academy of Education - the Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPEP) SIG.
The purpose of the Interprofessional Education and Practice Special Interest Group is to serve as a resource and forum for members of the Academy of Education who value and champion interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice (IPCP) in all facets of the physical therapy profession. IPE occurs when two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. IPCP has been shown to support the quintuple aim of enhancing the care experience, improving population health, reducing costs, improving healthcare wellbeing, and advancing health equity.
IPEP's inaugural membership meeting will be held at CSM in Boston, MA on Friday, February 16th at 6:00-7:30 AM in Room 205 AB, Boston Conference Center.
To become a member of IPEP, login to your Academy account on the website. Then go to your member compass. On the left navigation bar, select profile. Scroll down to special interest groups and add IPEP.

The Academy is seeking applicants interested in serving as Program Committee Co-Chair for the annual Combined Section Meeting (CSM). The CSM Co-Chair is appointed for a 3-year term to work with the Academy’s other CSM co-chairs in conjunction with Academy staff. The current full position description (proposed updates have been submitted for Board consideration at the February 2024 meeting) can be found by clicking below.
Upon appointment, the new co-chair will begin to train with the current co-chair team on planning for CSM ’25 (February 13-15, Houston, TX).
Candidates must submit a statement of interest for this position with a current curriculum vita via the Academy’s Volunteer Portal by Friday, February 23, 2024.

ELC Program Committee Co-Chair

The Academy is seeking applicants interested in serving as Program Committee Co-Chair for the annual Education Leadership Conference (ELC). The ELC Co-Chair is appointed for a 3-year term to work with the Academy’s other ELC co-chairs in conjunction with Academy staff and ACAPT’s ELC team. The full position description (recently modified with Board approval anticipated) can be found by clicking below.
Upon appointment, the new co-chair will begin to train with the current co-chair team on planning for ELC ’24 (October 18 -20, Oakland CA ). The new appointee’s term will end on December 31st, 2027.
Candidates must submit a statement of interest for this position with a current curriculum vita via the Academy’s Volunteer Portal by Friday, February 23, 2024.

Alternate Delegate to House of Delegates

The APTA Academy of Education is seeking a volunteer to serve as the alternate delegate to the APTA House of Delegates. The alternate delegate serves in place of the chief or second delegate if either is unable to attend one or more sessions of the House of Delegates. The person who serves as the alternate delegate will automatically be considered for Board appointment as the second Academy delegate in the year following service as the alternate delegate.

FELLOWSHIP IN HIGHER EDUCATION LEADERSHIP (FHEL) APPLICATIONS

The APTA Academy of Education Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership provides current and aspiring directors in physical therapy education programs with the skills and resources they need to be innovative, influential, and visionary leaders who can function within a rapidly evolving, politico-sociocultural environment.
The award-winning fellowship was first accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE) in 2012 and reaccredited in 2017 through 2027. With over 160 alumni, the FHEL looks forward to welcoming its 13th cohort for 2024-2025.
Accepted candidates will begin the fellowship July 1, 2024 and take part in three trimesters of coursework, a mentorship program, and a leadership project. The 2024-2025 cohort will conclude in July 2025.
The APTA Academy of Education looks forward to helping current and aspiring leaders in Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership achieve their professional goals and advancing the physical therapy education community.
