E.F.T. (Emotional Freedom Techniques) For Weight Loss
Diet/exercise programs for weight loss are a hot topic for discussion in many circles. However, most of these regimens do little or nothing to examine the beliefs and/or traumas that caused the weight gain to manifest in the first place. E.F.T. (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a method that is known to have helped people to successfully lose weight.
To Practice E.F.T., one taps with their fingers seven or more times on each of the body’s nine meridian points. The meridian points make up a network of energy channels throughout the body. Meridian lines are thought to connect each meridian on the surface of the body with a different internal organ.
All negative thoughts and emotions and all unresolved traumas will cause a blockage in the body’s energy flow. During the tapping process, one addresses their specific problems, but at the same time affirms that she will not allow herself to be controlled by her problems. This process sends a signal to the amygdala. This is the part of the brain that is triggered when we feel fear or anxiety, which subsequently causes a “fight or flight” reaction. The tapping process has the opposite, calming effect on the body.
E.F.T. was developed by psychologist, Dr. Roger Callahan in 1979. He had a working knowledge of acupuncture and realized that one can achieve similar results without the needles. In the 1990s, one of Dr. Callahan’s students, Gary Craig, took it one step further and developed a simple tapping sequence, which is purported to have great success in alleviating anxiety, along with many emotional and physical health issues.
For people who binge eat when they are stressed and for people who experience strong food cravings, the practice of E.F.T. can be a powerful tool. Calming the body puts one in a better state of mind. And when one is in a good state of mind, the desire to overeat often disappears.
