From The Pastor
Throughout the Lenten season, around 20 of us gathered each week to study a book called “The Walk,” written by Adam Hamilton. Throughout this study, we focused on 5 spiritual practices that helped us get closer to God and God’s people. The practices were “worship and prayer, study, service, generosity, and sharing our faith (words and deeds).”
Each week, we had deep and meaningful conversations about our different faith journeys and how others have impacted our faith lives in countless ways. One of the most important and impactful parts of the study was where we were challenged to write down names of people who have helped shape our faith throughout our life. I took on that challenge, reached out to two individuals I haven’t spoken with in some time, informed them how grateful I am for their impact on my faith, and I can’t tell you how great it felt to do this.
As we move into the months following Easter, I present to you that same challenge. Think of and write down 2 to 4 people throughout your life who have helped shape and encourage your faith. Take a moment and send them a message or give them a call to let them know how grateful you are for them and their impact on your life. If one of the individuals you think of has passed away, give God thanks for that person and what they did for you and your faith journey.
One person I was unable to contact who has impacted my faith is YOU. All of you here at First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. All of you have strengthened, challenged, and grown my faith over the years. Your love, generosity, mercy, empathy and compassion, have enabled me to know that God is not finished making this world better. I cannot thank you enough for the spirit you share with my family. We would not be who we were if it were not for your faith in God. THANK YOU!
As always, I look forward to seeing you, especially in worship,
Pastor Robert
