VALLEJO, CA – On May 8, 2018, the Vallejo City Council created a Building Standards Code Appeal Board (BSCAB). The BSCAB shall consist of 5 members from the disciplines of Design Professional, Fire Protection, Engineering, Industrial Safety, General Contractor, and General Industry or Business Representative. Members are nominated by the fire code official, the chief building official, or the city manager, subject to confirmation by a majority of the city council.
The City is seeking qualified design professional and general contractor applicants interested in serving on the Board for a one-year term.
Purpose of the BSCAB
The purpose of the BSCAB shall be to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the chief building official or fire code official relative to the application and interpretation of the California Building Standards Codes, including but not limited to the Building Code, Fire Code Residential Code, Electrical Code, Mechanical Code, Plumbing Code, Energy Code, Historical Building Code, Existing Building Code, Green Building Standards Code, and the Referenced Standards Code.
The duties and powers of the BSCAB are to:

Hear appeals as described in Chapter 12 of the Vallejo Municipal Code
- Exercise any other duties, functions, or powers assigned to the BSCAB as prescribed by the city council, pursuant to resolution or ordinance.
Qualifications to be a Board Member
The board shall consist of members who are qualified by experience and training to pass on matters pertaining to hazards of fire, explosions, hazardous conditions, fire protection systems or building construction and voting members must not be employees of the city of Vallejo. Given the specialized qualifications required of the board, members of the board shall not be required to be residents of the city of Vallejo.
Applications will remain open until the City Clerk's Office has received a sufficient number of applicants with design professional and general contractor experience.
