WSP Appoints Eric Peissel as Global Director of Transport and Infrastructure

October 5, 2021 — WSP is pleased to announce that Eric Peissel has been named Global Director of Transport and Infrastructure, replacing Dave McAlister, who will now be dedicated to his role as Chief Development Officer for WSP USA.

Since joining WSP in 2001 as a Project Manager, Eric has held many senior transportation leadership roles across Canada over his 20-year career with WSP, having progressed to eventually lead the Canadian Transportation Business Line.

Three new Liebherr Megamax STS for Maher Terminals LLC

October 5, 2021 — Liebherr Container Cranes have been awarded the contract for the supply of three ship to shore (STS) container cranes for Maher Terminals LLC at the Port of New York & New Jersey. The cranes will take their place alongside the existing eight Liebherr STS cranes at Maher’s terminal. The first two cranes were supplied in 2012 with a further two in 2014 and four in 2016. Maher’s positive experience with the Liebherr STS for the best part of a decade has reinforced the decision to once again purchase Liebherr cranes.

Port of Redwood City earns distinguished award from American Association of Port Authorities

October 5, 2021 — The Port of Redwood City (Port) was honored last week at the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) conference in Austin, Texas for its engaging campaign, “Splash of Fun.” The Overall Campaign Award of Excellence is a prestigious recognition in the port industry because it is one of 14 competitive award classifications. The AAPA is an international organization empowering over 130 Ports and maritime industry partners to serve global customers and create economic and social value for their communities.

Scrubber Barge – Air abatement technology floating unit

September 29, 2021 — Albion Marine Solutions provides a scrubber barge solution for vessels in port that helps reduce Sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and submicron particulate matter in exhaust gas regardless of vessel size and engine size. Our newly developed air abatement technology is being installed in a floating unit. It’s a unique concept for preserving the marine environment and ecosystem. The Albion Marine Solutions designed floating system is propelled by a battery-powered electrical propulsion system, increasing efficiency, and decreasing operational costs. It can operate at any port or harbours located worldwide as well as in the Canadian territory.

Port of San Diego celebrates and welcomes cruise passengers back to San Diego

September 29, 2021 — The Port of San Diego welcomes the return of cruise lines and cruise passengers. On Friday, October 1, the Disney Wonder and Grand Princess will be the first sailings out of San Diego since spring 2020. The Disney Wonder is setting sail for a four-day cruise beginning in San Diego to Cabo San Lucas and back. The Grand Princess sailing will begin in Los Angeles on September 30 and stop in San Diego on October 1 on its way to Ensenada and back to Los Angeles.

The Port currently anticipates more than 100 cruise calls through May 2022. Those calls will primarily be from Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, and Disney Cruise Line.

Port of Grays Harbor earns third top port communications award for Westport’s Fresh Catch

September 29, 2021 — The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has awarded the Port of Grays Harbor the 2021 Lighthouse Award for overall communications excellence for its Westport’s Fresh Catch community outreach entry at its 110th Annual Convention.

A collaborative effort between the City of Westport’s tourism-arm, Experience Westport, Catch Invest: Catch Together, Capture.Share.Repeat and the Westport Marina, Westport’s Fresh Catch was launched to connect local residents and the thousands of visitors to the South Beach area to the abundance of fresh, local seafood that comes across Westport’s docks every day.

Port of Columbia County announces leadership changes

September 29, 2021 — The Port of Columbia County Board of Commissioners announced today that Executive Director Douglas Hayes has resigned his position with the Port, effective immediately. Hayes had been with the Port since 2017.

The board has appointed Deputy Executive Director Sean Clark to the role of Interim Executive Director. He has been with the Port since 2014 and became Deputy Executive Director in May. Port commissioners will determine a path to find its next Executive Director at the October port commission meeting.

FortisBC begins construction on gas line replacement project

September 27, 2021 — Work will start on a new gas line this November to ensure more than 35,000 homes and businesses in Burnaby, Coquitlam and New Westminster continue to receive the energy they count on.

As the province’s largest energy provider, FortisBC is investing in the infrastructure needed to provide our customers with safe, reliable and affordable energy today and into the future, while working to reduce their emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 to meet our 30BY30 target. The Pattullo Gas Line Replacement is part of this work, ensuring our system can continue to supply energy to local homes and businesses once a gas line attached to the Pattullo Bridge is removed as part of the province’s bridge replacement project.

Port of Skagit receives $2-million in funding for fiber optic construction

September 22, 2021 — The Port of Skagit was awarded a $1,000,000 loan and a $1,000,000 grant through the Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) to continue its work to bring fiber optic infrastructure to eastern Skagit County.

This low-interest Rural Broadband Program loan along with the grant from the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund, will support the East County Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) Construction Project. This project consists of FTTP construction of aerial fiber in Concrete, Lyman, Hamilton, and Marblemount.

Port of Long Beach’s Pier T Terminal begins pilot program for 24-hour cargo pickup

September 21, 2021 — Total Terminals International container terminal on Pier T in the Port of Long Beach is making it easier for trucks to access the facility during the overnight hours in a new pilot program to widen access and speed deliveries amid the ongoing cargo surge.

The pilot program at the Port’s largest terminal focuses on the effort to reduce “dwell” – the amount of time cargo spends waiting for pickup on the dock. The terminal is taking two significant steps to increase cargo pickup in the late night, early morning hours, when there is less traffic on the region’s freeways and surface streets.

Port of Benton’s Richland Airport receives Federal Aviation Administration Grant

September 21, 2021 — Port of Benton has received $3,156,583 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Funding through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) intended to provide electrical, lighting, and guidance system upgrades at the Richland Airport.

To participate in the FAA Airport Improvement Program, the Port must identify the projects in the airport master plan. At its August 18, 2021 meeting, the Port of Benton Commission accepted FAA grant funds for the replacement of existing medium intensity runway lighting and electrical room modifications. This follows a prior award from FAA in June 2021 for lighting design, and implements the full project scope.
