The All Our Kin Team

Get Ready for Advocacy Day!

Thanks to advocates across the country -- including many of you -- Congress recently approved an increase in child care and early education funding for the 2023 fiscal year. This increase includes $1.9 billion in new funding for the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF). This funding can be used to support vouchers, early learn, licensing and quality. As a result, New York will receive an additional $84,346 million, a 31% increase over annual funding last year.

With a new Congress elected in November, we don't anticipate any increase in federal funding over the next two years. That's why All Our Kin will be joining the Empire State Child Care Campaign in Albany for an in-person rally and press conference on Tuesday, February 14! It is important for us to have a big presence at the Capitol this year to show the Legislature, Governor, and the media that child care is a top priority issue in New York with much more work still to be done.

If you can’t make it to Albany, there will also be a virtual rally on Tuesday, Feb. 7 in addition to virtual meetings with legislators. Now is our time to make our voices heard as a family child care community!

FCC Educators

All Our Kin and ECE on the Move will host a workshop on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. to help FCC educators prepare for New York State Child Care Advocacy Day. We’ll discuss effective communication with elected officials, how to share your story and your “asks” with representatives, and go over our shared goals with Empire State Campaign for Child Care in this year’s New York State budget.

Wellness Workshop Series

Somatic Experiencing for Resolving Stress and Trauma

This six-week online training is an interactive program to learn mind-body practices for regulating our nervous system in the face of work and societal challenges. The focus will be on understanding the autonomic nervous system’s fight, flight, and freeze responses to acute and chronic stress and trauma, and the physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral impact.

You will learn exercises for a healthy nervous system and self-regulation as well as strategies for co-regulation with the children in your care. The first workshop begins Feb. 9.
