Jessica,

It’s almost election time in NYC! Primary elections for the NYC Council are coming up on June 27 and this is an opportunity to show that family child care must be top priority for our City Council candidates. All Our Kin will share more information in the coming weeks about how you can be engaged in the City Council elections to make your voice heard as educators.

For now, make sure you are registered to vote.

News

We know that many of you have had the opportunity to work with Christie Balka, our VP of Policy, on a number of critical advocacy initiatives over the past four years. We wanted to let you know that Christie will be transitioning from her role at All Our Kin. She has been an instrumental part of our organization’s success, and we’re grateful for all of her wonderful contributions to the All Our Kin & FCC community.

If you'd like to reach out to Christie, please contact her at christie@allourkin.org before May 1.

You can email Steven at steven@allourkin.org for any NYC policy issues or immediate needs during this transition.

The Power of Silence in Early

Childhood Development

There is great power in silence when interacting with young children. Taking a moment to pause or create moments of silence is essential in teaching children co-regulation and to reflect on the skills they’ve already learned.

To find ways to implement this practice in your program, check out this blog post from NAEYC.
