Jessica,
We did it! The Housing Bill 6590l, officially known as “ An Act Concerning Certain Protections for Group and Family Child Care Homes” has been successfully passed into law, and it’s all thanks to your unwavering efforts! This bill will reduce prohibitive zoning regulations for family child care businesses, making it easier for educators in Connecticut to expand and care for more children.
As we celebrate this milestone, let’s take a moment to recognize the progress we have made together. This achievement is a true testament to the strength and unity of our community, and the power in raising our voices and sharing our stories!
While recognizing that Connecticut is making strides toward becoming a more family-friendly state, we also acknowledge that there is still work to be done. Governor Lamont recently signed off on the state budget, which will provide an increase in Care 4 Kids payment rates and other key state-funded programs. Though it’s a step in the right direction, it simply isn’t enough to address chronically low wages and will reduce the number of children who can access care.
As we move forward, let us carry the spirit of our recent victory and channel it into advocating for more substantial support in the months to come. We are honored to stand with you in this ongoing fight for a brighter future for our children, educators and families.
